GAUGE: 26 sts + 23 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in K2, p2 Rib, unstretched BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. STITCH EXPLANATION: LCD (Left Slanting Cable Decrease - worked over 12 sts) Sl 4 sts to cable needle and hold in front, (p2tog) twice, (k2tog) twice, then (k2, p2) from cable needle - cable made and 4 sts decreased. M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.

Center Section Note: Work over center 18 (18, 22, 22, 22) sts only. Work even for 34 (34, 40, 40, 46) rows. Bind off in rib. Sew sides of center section to bound-off sts of sides. Front Band Note: Grafting the front band sts together creates a smooth join but, if you prefer, you can bind off and then seam bands together. Sl the 9 sts, with yarn still attached, from holder to a double pointed needle (dpn). Work in K1, p1 Rib as established until rib measures same length as bound-off edge of center of hood. Sl rem 9 sts from holder to a dpn and graft sts together as follows: Holding the 2 needles parallel with WS of fabric together, thread a large-eyed blunt needle with one of the yarn ends and work as follows: Follow steps 1-4 as outlined below. 1) Insert needle as if to knit through first st on front needle and let the st drop from needle. 2) Insert needle into 2nd st on front needle as if to purl and pull the yarn through, leave st on the needle. 3) Insert needle into first st on back needle as if to purl and let the st drop from the needle. 4) Insert needle as if to knit through 2nd st on back needle and pull the yarn through, leave st on the needle. Rep steps 1-4 until all sts have been grafted together. When finished, adjust tension as necessary. Weave in ends. FINISHING Sew edge of Front Band to bound-off edge of center of hood. Sew side seams. Sew buttons to Left Front opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends.
