1. Scope
This specification covers the standard specifications of 24kV Post Insulators used in transformers for support of Neutral grounding bar for star connected solidly earthed neutral system (38 kV AC class).

2. Application
a) A post insulator consists of one Post insulator unit or an assembly of such units and is intended to give rigid support to a live part which is to be insulated from earth or from another live part. b) The most important function is to support and isolate from tank the Neutral grounding bar, which runs from neutral bushing down to earth level for connection to the site earthing system. c) These are also used to form neutral of three single phase transformers.

3. General Requirements
a) The Specifications of 24 kV Post Insulator shall confirm to IS: 2544 and dimensions are to IS: 5350 (Part III). b) The porcelain shall be sound free from defects, thoroughly vitrified and smoothly gazed. c) Unless otherwise specified, the glaze shall be brown in colour. d) The finished galvanized surfaces of all ferrous metal parts shall be smooth. e) The post insulator unit shall be assembled in a suitable jig to ensure the correct positioning of the top and bottom metal fittings relative to one another.
