CALCULATORS
Students planning to take Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, or Pre-Calculus will be required to have a scientific
calculator. These calculators are easily identified as having the trigonometric function buttons (sin, cos, tan)
and cost well below $20. Examples include (but certainly not limited to) the following: Casio FX-115, Casio FX-
260, Casio FX-300, Sharp EL-506, Sharp EL-531, Texas Instrument TI-30, Texas Instrument TI-34, or Texas
Instrument TI-36.
Students planning on taking AP Calculus will need to get a Texas Instruments TI-83, TI-84, or TI-Nspire (TI-84
keypad will be used). These calculators retail around $100-$130.
To comply with the calculator policies of standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT, certain devices will not
be allowed for classroom use. These include calculators with QWERTY keypads or use paper tape or make
noise or need an electrical outlet, laptop or portable/handheld computers, personal data assistants or pocket
organizers, pen-input/stylus-driven devices, and cellphones or smartphones (such as Blackberrys). Also the
Texas Instruments TI-89, TI-92, and Voyage 200 will not be allowed.
