National inventory control for cement storage and distribution depots in Greece
Cement is not only cement; there are different kinds of mixtures with different properties on the market available today. Cement is available in large quantities everywhere and even on some places there is overproduction of cement. Competition is therefore hard. To bind customers, increase of added value and/or cost reduction is a must to survive. To reduce and predict shorter delivery times and to fulfill producing on demand means a better knowledge of the inbound stock situation on every production facility. This requirement came from the marketing and sales department witch are located far from the different cement production facilities. When inbound stock data is available in production environment then it is still hard to get it from the plant process control system. There is always hesitation when a third party wants to access the process control systems witch are supplied and maintained by somebody else. Even when there is a possibility to hook on then it is expensive to get this data in a standard office environment which the sales and marketing department is using. On top of that most of the plant process control systems used on several locations are different. This means that implementation has to be done over and over again with different software. AGET HERACLES is one of the biggest cement exporters in Europe and certainly the largest cement manufacturer in Greece with 3 production plants and numerous storage and distribution depots situated all over Greece. Endress+Hauser representative, I&G Controls has been entrusted of setting up of the inventory control system for an initial number of remote storages and distribution depots on the island of Crete, the Peloponese and in the mainland especially Northern Greece. A total of eight depots are linked up to total 15 storage silos. The cement storage silos at these remote locations are equipped with Levelflex M FMP40 instruments for continuous level measurement. Acquisition of the measured data is accomplished by the Fieldgate FXA520, which in turn makes this data available to the companys Ethernet Network. Having Fieldgate as an inventory access point, it provides an easy access of all the instrument data without any interference to the production control systems. In this case the HART protocol of several levels on the different production locations devices were collected and transferred. The Fieldgate acts as an internet server creating intranet pages on demand. In this way the companys headquarters in Athens have reliable and immediate feedback of the actual and available stocks at each and every depot. The system is proving in invaluable tool for management stock control, delivery planning and scheduling.

Plus: Worldwide service and support with Fieldgate and software

Features Remote service with Fieldgate HART client Remote set-up and diagnostics of connected instruments with standard device operation tools, e.g. ToF-Tool (for level + pressure) and FieldCare (all products) Commissioning tailored to the actual situation on site saves time Benefits Easy implementation using open Web standards and open digital communication (HART, FF, PROFIBUS) technology Immediate and reliable feedback of the actual instrument status e.g. envelope curves from ToF (Time of Flight) products Predictive maintenance with DTM supplied field-devices using FieldCare means real time condition monitoring e.g. automatic instrument check up and error reporting
