The launch of the first car


The Tata Sierra was a sport utility vehicle, much suited for both off-road as well as city driving. The Sierra was the first automobile fully designed and produced in India and it took the market by storm. When it was launched 1991, it had naturally aspirated engine but latter version launched in 1997 were Turbocharged. The Sierra Turbo is believed to be the first turbo charged engine on cars in India at the time. Tata used to provide 44 on special request. It was a three door SUV. The Sierra is suited to Indian conditions of driving and is the first diesel vehicle as a personal car in India. Sierra was the first to feature adjustable steering. The Tata Sierra is no longer in production.

Tata Estate
Tata Motors launched Tata Estate, a MUV in 1992. Tata Motors was confident about the car even though there is no much scope for estste cars in the Indian market. The car was spacious and provided a comfortable ride. It was the companys first attempt at building a car. The car had the TATA 207 Engine.The car lacked a powerful engine to sustain its bulky body and was not that smooth in riding.The Estate was out of production as there was a less demand for the car due to its lack of a powerful engine.

Tata Sumo
Tata Sumo is a multi-utility vehicle released in 1994. Since then, it has been enjoying its position in the MUV market. It was one of the first passenger vehicles designed in India. Tata Sumo quickly captured a major segment of the utility vehicle market in India. A no-frills version of the Sumo, called the Tata Spacio is available. The facelifted version of the car, Sumo Victa was launched in 2004. Tata launched a sports utility vehicleversion of the Sumo, named Sumo Grande in 2008. The Sumo Grande features a completely different body work. The Sumo is preferred by cab owners as it is spacious.

Tata Safari
The Tata Safari is the first SUV designed, developed and manufactured entirely in India. The car was first launched in 1998. The Safari is for the customers who cannot afford to buy a Mitsubishi Pajero. The SUV was first released with a 1.9-litre Turbo Diesel engine. In 2005, the facelifted Safari with a new 3-litre DiCOR engine and a 2-litre petrol engine was launched. The 2litre petrol engine version won the Motor Forums Car of the Year for 2007, in the SUV category. In October 2007 the 2.2-litre Safari DiCOR with increased power output was released. Tata recently launched a new variant of safari called safari GX. The Safari is a good off-road performer but it is not suited for the city traffic.

Tata Safari

Tata Indigo
Tatas Indica platform is shared by a number of variants, the Tata Indigo which includes the shorter Indigo CS, Long wheelbase XL and the Indigo Marina estate. Tata Indigo is a subcompact sedan which made its debut in 2002. It comes in sedan, station wagon and estate versions. The Indigo Marina, which is the estate version, was launched in 2004. The Indigo brings with it a gamut of comfort and luxury features. In 2005, Tata Motors released the Indigo SX Fully Loaded. Tata Indigo XL, the long wheel base version of the Indigo sedan went on sale in 2007. Tata launched the Tata Indigo CS in 2008 and is the worlds shortest sedan.

Tata Nano
The Nano is a rear-engined, four-passenger city car. The car is very fuel efficient, giving 26 km/l on the highway and 22 km/l in the city. The car was first shown in January 2008 and commercially launched on March 23, 2009. The Nano is the worlds cheapest car available. The first Nano was delivered to its customer on 17 July 2009. Right from the Sierra to the Nano, Tata has been successfull in its steps taken to deliver the cars according to the taste of Indians. The company is producing the worlds cheapest car. And, it is also producing luxury cars of the JLR brand.
