_____SITRA
1. Introduction
As mills are aware, since inception SITRA has been helping the textile industry,
particularly spinning mills towards improving their operational and commercial efficiencies
by under taking a number of inter-mill studies and consultancy and training services and
disseminating the research findings through SITRA publications, seminars and conferences.
Over the years, a large number of mills has been benefitted out of SITRAs services.
This online survey is a new initiative from SITRA, the main objective of which is to
make available the vital commercial information viz., mill-wise and count-wise yarn selling
price (YSP) and corresponding raw material cost (RMC) to the participant mills on a monthly
basis. Besides YSP and RMC, NOV i.e., net output value which is nothing but the difference
between YSP and RMC, RMC as a percentage of YSP and yarn quality are also covered millwise and count-wise in this report.
Though this online survey is the first-of-its kind from SITRA, nevertheless from the
perspective of data coverage, it is an extension of a part of the CPQ (Costs, operational
performance and yarn quality) study. The crucial component of this survey was the
requirement to develop a suitable web portal where data can be keyed in by the participating
mills every month and the analysed data can be viewed. With the help of M/s. Carolina
Technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore, SITRA has come out with a new web portal
http://rmcysp.sitraonline.org, for this survey.
2. Methodology
From each mill, YSP, RMC, yarn quality, yarn realization and production per
spindle/rotor data pertaining to April 2013, for up to 10 counts/varieties of yarns
manufactured by them, were collected online. The data submitted by the participant mills
were scrutinized and grouped. Necessary care was taken to ensure that the data obtained from
the mills are reliable. The counts have been grouped as follows and presented in the report.

Time frame
: In order to present the survey report to the

participant mills at the earliest possible time,
SITRA has fixed the following time frame.
Data submission by the mills by : During 1st to 7th of every month.

3. Number of participants in the 1st study

In this first study, as many as 109 mills have registered with SITRA and out of which
83 mills have submitted the data. From the remaining 26 mills, the reasons for not submitting
the data on time are being ascertained so as to ensure that these units also take part in the
forthcoming studies. Continuous efforts are being made to bring- in as many mills as possible
in this survey to not only to cover more number of counts and varieties of yarns, but also to
extend this unique service to a larger number of mills.

The profile of the participant mills shows that close to 80% of them are from southern
states, predominantly (60%) from Tamil Nadu (Figure 1) followed by Maharashtra (13%).
The remaining mills are from 8 other States and Union Territories (Gujarat, Haryana,
Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Puducherry).

Tips for the mills to submit the data on time by online
The web portal is best viewed in Google Chrome (Ver.23.0 & higher) or Mozilla
Firefox (Ver.16.0 & higher).
Ensure that the required data are collected as per the enclosed model format, on or
before 7th of every month.
Mills can edit the data already submitted till the midnight of 7th.
Mills can contact SITRA staff whose names and contact numbers are given in the web
portal, for any assistance while submitting the data.
4. Mills reference numbers

The reference numbers to all the participants are allotted by the computer purely
based on the time of submission of their data. For example, if a mill submits the data as first
among the total participants in a survey, its reference number in that particular survey will

be 1. In the next survey, the same mills reference number will be different unless it submits
the data first among the participants. This arrangement has been made to keep the identity of
the individual mills intact. After log-in in the web portal, the participant mill can see its
reference number.
