Harnessing the Power of Hydraulic Flow to Increase Efciency.

The JetMix concept was developed in response to problems documented in efciently mixing large circular tanks. The revolutionary system, which uses powerful jets to maintain or resuspend solids, is engineered to take advantage of the hydraulic characteristics of circular tanks. The unique ow pattern created by the system eliminates dead spots, reduces energy requirements and virtually eliminates solids settling. Where other conventional systems have failed to keep solids in suspension during continuous operation, the JetMix system has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to generate a homogeneous mass from stratied tanks within 24 to 48 hours of operation. Using JetMix, stratied tanks can go up to 8 months between mixings. Engineering so advanced, its simple The JetMix system uses simple components to create a complex ow pattern which effectively sweeps all areas of a circular tank. This reduces mechanical complexity and maintenance, while increasing mixing efciency. The basics of the JetMix system are a set of nozzles placed on the oor of the tank, connected to a pump (which is usually mounted externally). The nozzles are arranged to create velocity which causes the contents to both revolve and rotate in a toroidal (rolling doughnut) conguration. This pattern rotates around the axis of the tank. Secondly, ow around the surface of the toroid is drawn down the tank center, along the oor, up the walls and back to the center creating a rolling helix pattern which sweeps the center and prevents solids from settling. The torroidal pattern is also effective in moving oating solids to the tank center, where they are pulled to the bottom and become homogenous with the tank contents. The net result is a continuous helical ow pattern which eliminates tank dead spots. Minimal tank obstructions External location of the pump and pipes keeps only the nozzles inside the tank and simplies maintenance dramatically. However, the system has also proven to work well in applications where internal pump or pipe location is required. Unlike conventional mixers, anti-vortex baffles are not required in a JetMix system. Reduction of tank obstructions helps eliminate accumulation of debris such as rags and ensures more hands-off operation than conventional methods. The JetMix system can often be operated remotely, requiring only routine maintenance of pumps. Easy cleaning, loading and unloading The external nozzle adjuster can be used to easily clean specic areas of the tank as needed with nothing but a manual adjustment and a water supply required. Where desired, the pump driving the system can be used for convenient loading and unloading or for mixing multiple tanks intermittently. Ideal for varying liquid levels JetMix ow patterns are not affected by the liquid level of the tank, making the system ideal for ow equalization, storage tanks, or any process tank which requires homogeneous solids concentrations yet may operate at various liquid levels. Efcient mixing is achieved as long as the motive pumps have liquid available. Use with supplemental air The JetMix system is a valuable addition in applications where air is used for mixing or maintaining aerobic conditions. Proven in its ability to suspend organic and inorganic solids, the systems intermittent mixing capabilities allow for independent mixing and aeration. This intermittent operation offers substantial savings in operation and maintenance, and when compared with systems using only aeration, a JetMix/aeration system reduces air volume by 70%.

Harnessing the Power of Hydraulic Flow to Increase Efciency.

Outside pump location provides easy access for scheduled maintenance and allows for mixing of multiple tanks with a single pump. Pump may also be used to ll or empty the tank.

Stationary nozzles are o adjustable 360 in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction to optimize mixing pattern.

Rolling helix action sweeps solids away from center of tank. High peripheral velocity helps resuspend solids quickly and keeps crust from forming.

Mixer Nozzles The heart of the JetMix system is the ow pattern generated by the mixer nozzles. Nozzle location, direction of discharge and nozzle velocity are combined to develop the ow pattern which matches the specics of your application. Optional rotation of nozzles can adjust the mixing pattern to reduce energy consumption, emphasize the mixing pattern or clean specic parts of the tank. Piping to the nozzles is typically located under the tank oor to minimize obstructions, however, applications have demonstrated that internal piping can also be effective without dramatically affecting the mixing pattern.

Mixer Pump Where coarse solids are not a factor, pump type can be varied to match existing pump types. Chopper-type pumps are often dictated in applications such as municipal biosolids where rags or long brous masses are present. This assures that ber masses will not reform and create plugging or maintenance problems.

Pumps, nozzles and piping can be provided in a variety of materials and congurations to suit your particular application.

External Nozzle Adjuster An optional manual crank box, located on the exterior of the tank, is used to rotate the mixer. The crank box is integral with the mixer nozzle and can rotate the nozzles a full 360 to optimize the tanks mixing pattern. The crank rod and gear box are sealed upon installation so that no scheduled maintenance is required within the tank. The crank box has a direct reading indicator which allows the operator to monitor nozzle position. The nozzle adjuster is also used for easy cleaning of the tank.

JetMix vs. Conventional Mixing Systems

The revolutionary JetMix system offers exibility and performance not found in other types of mixing systems. From variable liquid level requirements to intermittent mixing possibilities, the JetMix system continually performs at high levels of mixing efciency. Compare your needs against the benets of the JetMix system. Increased mixing efciency The unique action of the JetMix system is proven to improve mixing efciency over conventional methods. Pure biological slurries up to 10% have been shown to be efciently resuspended to a homogeneous mass. Studies involving mixing of minute quantities of feed stock into a large tank volume have further demonstrated the truly homogeneous nature that the mixing pattern develops. The feed stock was shown to be uniformly dispersed throughout the tank volume. The system is also proven to virtually eliminate solids settling. One study showed that a fast-settling materials was maintained in uniform suspension with essentially no accumulation of solids in the tank even when the feed pipes were run above the tank oor.

JetMix vs. Conventional Mixing Systems

Dramatically reduced operating costs The efciency of the JetMix system reduces the amount of energy required in comparison to conventional systems. The minimal maintenance and operator attendance required further reduces operating costs. The systems ability to run intermittently in suitable applications (such as biosolids and applications with slow settling solids) causes a very dramatic reduction in costs in comparison to the continuous operation of conventional systems. Installation and operating costs are also reduced by the mixing pumps ability to ll application vehicles or feed other process equipment. Simplied maintenance In-tank equipment requires no scheduled maintenance, so the system runs maintenance-free most of the time requiring very little operator attention. Routine maintenance of pumps is convenient and efcient since pumps are commonly located outside of the tank enclosure, often in a separate room or vault.

Optional over-the-top nozzle rapidly breaks up surface crust which may develop during long storage periods.

Flexible Operation Suits Municipal and Industrial Applications

The modular design of the JetMix Vortex Mixing System allows for various pumps and nozzles to be used in combination to meet a wide range of application requirements and load uctuations. Design of the mixing system takes into account the viscosity, particle size, density, settling rate and tank geometry. The system can be arranged to provide highly energy efcient normal operation, and can accommodate additional units which provide extra mixing power on demand. Easy retrotting The JetMix system can also be installed and retrotted to both above ground and in ground installations. Since JetMix doesnt rely on the tank walls or roof to support machinery or operating equipment, the materials and construction of the tank do not limit the systems use.

Biosolids Storage This JetMix system enhances a land application program. In this type of application a JetMix system can be used on an as-needed basis - often as little as 5% of the time! The systems ability to resuspend solids in as little as 24-48 hours of operation allows loads to quickly be turned into a uniform mixture suitable for pumping and soil incorporation. In this application density of solids (created by a high proportion of dairy waste) was a primary concern. The JetMix system has proven itself capable of handling even maximum solids density at the plant. Blending Tank Prior to Centrifuge Feed The JetMix systems efcient mixing pattern provides consistant solids concentration levels to mechanical biosolids processing units. This allows for additional saving through chemical optimization.

Anaerobic Digestion This existing anaerobic digester was converted to take advantage of the JetMix Vortex Mixing pattern. The system not only saves operating costs but has markedly lower maintenance costs than those required by the gas mixing system it replaced. JetMixs demonstrated ability to clean settled solids off the oor eliminates routine cleaning of digesters and retains the effective operations volume.

Biosolids Storage JetMix systems have been successfully applied to tanks greater than 100 in diameter.

Chemical Mixing This community uses lime stabilization to achieve Class B sludge. The JetMix system enables the operator to store the stabilized slurry, knowing that the system will effectively mix the tank prior to disposal.

Flexible Operation Suits Municipal and Industrial Applications

As-needed operation The systems ability to operate on an as-needed basis is a unique feature which can equate to savings of many thousands of dollars of energy costs alone for applications that can accommodate this approach. The systems ability to quickly and completely resuspend solids (within 24-48 hours) make this possible. The high performance and cost-saving operation of the JetMix Vortex Mixing System have positioned it as the top choice for many municipal and industrial applications.

Flow Equalization Here JetMix nozzles were part of a ow equalization program which enabled this plant to reduce the initial cost of a plant expansion. Flow entering the plant passes through a regulation device that diverts excess ow to a holding tank equipped with JetMix nozzles. The mixer is operated on an as-needed basis. When the inuent ow rate falls to an acceptable level, the JetMix nozzles are used to resuspend any settled solids so that the tank contents can be pumped back into the main plant for normal treatment. This balances the organic load and minimizes odor problems. Biosolids Storage with Supplemental Aeration The Jetmix system offers efciency and economy when combined with supplemental aeration. Without the need to operate the aeration continuously, the combined systems offer potential operational savings between 60-90%.

Leachate Storage The JetMix system effectively suspends settled material, signicantly reducing tank cleaning costs. The JetMix system also is used to reduce icing within the tank.

Retrot of Buried Tanks Adjustable or xed nozzles are easily installed in existing concrete tanks. Process Applications Industrial waste biosolids are stored in these tanks prior to land application in an agricultural environment. Micronutrients introduced to the tank are blended to help assimilation in the eld.
