Subject:*e%safety$rules$for$students$in$Y3
Dear Mr. Hennessy,

We have carefully reviewed the e-safety rules that should be signed by our daughter in Year 3 and it
raises a number of concerns.

Overall, we fully agree with the content of the document. They match what we would like our children to be
aware and follow. However, we believe the full content of the document in not appropriate for a 7 years
old as itgoes into areas that are beyond their grasp; at least we believe that it is the case for our daughter.

As a background, at home, our daughter would only use specifically approved web sites such as
"BrainPOP" or French equivalents for children. Her use of the computer is therefore limited and she is
accompanied. We expect that she will develop quickly her knowledge of access to additional information
sources and we will accompany this process, notably possible use of some social media like "Club
Penguin".

In that regard, we are comfortable with the majority of e-safety rules set out in the document, like the limits
to specific sites, dialogue with already identified contacts.

At that stage, we are however not willing to discuss in details the following notions with her:
- "content offensive to others"
- "online activity that would cause my school, its staff, or others distress or bringthem into
disrepute"
- "upload or use images, video, audio that could upset any member of the school community"
Page*3*of*3

We are concerned that addressing these elements in details would be upsetting. Our daughter has no idea
of what would be pornographic or offensive contents and we do not want to make her curious or aware.
We believe that these elements are appropriate for children a bit more mature. These discussions will
therefore come in due time.

We therefore plan to discuss the e-safety rules and at that stage, and for these 3 above mentioned
elements, we will insist on the fact that only a limited number of sites are accessible and that she should
stop / inform us or a teacher if she ends upwith a wrong/ not for children content.

Could you clarify the way you intend to address the e-rules with the Y3 students in light of our concerns?

Thank you very much foryour attention,

Best regards,
