Hydropanel fibre cement boards from Marley Eternit have helped to avoid the issues associated with tiling and
painting a swimming pool, say Project 5 Architects. The moisture resistant properties of the board allowed clay
tiles, chlorine resistant paint and an intricate mosaic frieze to be applied directly to the fibre cement boards on the
companys latest domestic swimming pool project. The Hydropanel boards were screwed directly to timber
grounds on the walls of the new pool pavilion and will allow for any small movement. Marley Eternit supplies a full
range of fixing screws and nails. Tiling was able to start as soon as the boards had been fixed as there was no need
to seal them as is the case with gypsum based boards. Hydropanel is available in 6mm, 9mm and 12mm
thicknesses. The 900 by 1200mm one man lift board is ideal for domestic applications and new build.

Eurocare Showers has introduced a new addition to its door range to provide retailers with greater
freedom and flexibility. Eurocare doors are manufactured to individual customer specifications but as
some retailers are now looking to stock standard sizes for an off the shelf solution, Eurocare has
introduced a 105mm compensator (patent pending). This brand new compensator has a series of
carefully calculated extension stages into which the doors fit for effortless installation, says Sales and
Marketing Manager Joanna Talbot. This innovation means more retailers can stock standard product
offerings without compromising on the versatility they have come to expect from Eurocare."

By remodelling the trap way and horizontal outlet on fully back to wall close
coupled pans, Impulse Bathrooms can now offer the option of a P or S connection.
This gives a neat and easy to install secure join between the spigot and the
connector. When intended for S configuration (discharging down through the
floor), Impulse can supply their own 90S connector, which is fully adjustable and
can be fixed into position braced back to the wall. This allows the pan to be
pushed back to the wall and on to the connector.

THE DARK ART
EXPLAINED
Despite modern advances such as pressure casting
and robot spraying, sanitaryware manufacture is
still one of the dark arts all the more reason why
controls to guarantee best practice is strictly
enforced, says Gary Hawkins.
Theres a boom in own
brands but how do you
know you are buying good
quality, trouble free
products? Gary Hawkins,
General Manager of
Impulse Bathrooms
explains how to keep
control.
W
e are seeing a boom in own brands typically, but not exclusively, manufactured in
the Far East plus the relocation of production for many famous name UK brands to
parts of the world where manufacturing costs can be reduced.
Here lies a problem, says Gary Hawkins, General Manager of Impulse Bathrooms, a China
based manufacturer of ceramic suites, baths and brassware. It is difficult to ensure consistent
quality and compliance with standards from thousands of miles away. Retaining diligent
supervision of production quality and technology is essential and technically knowledgeable
people must be on site at all times.
Vitrification, says Gary, is one area where it can all go horribly wrong. Vitrification will only
occur when the clay body is fired at a temperature of over 1200
o
C. With fuel costs rising rapidly,
an unscrupulous or uncontrolled supplier may be tempted to save money by turning the kiln
temperature down by a few degrees. While there may be no visible evidence of a sub standard
product after firing when exposed to water it may well absorb liquid, which will cause crazing.
This allows germs and bacteria to gain a hold and can also result in swelling and cracking with
potentially catastrophic results.
There are other possible problems if the own brand does not own and control the
manufacturing process. Parts of the Far East have been notorious for infringing copyright with
impunity even using one customers moulds to make for another. There are those here in the
UK who have purchased ranges under an exclusive agreement only to find another company
selling the same thing either under a different brand or un-named. Some countries have a
reputation for simply selling to the highest bidder so if a big retail chain comes along with a
large order the smaller customer may be cut off from supplies.
Other things to think about when using a remote supplier are: Will quality be maintained as
per the sample? What about spares or replacements for breakages in transit? What if additional
product is needed to complete a contract for which insufficient quantities have been ordered
can the customer stand the likely delay? Is there sufficient stockholding in this country to cover
these situations? Are you sure the company you are dealing with is the actual manufacturer? Are
their accreditations (ISO 9000 etc) valid or did they buy them for a tenner on the Internet? Do
you have to pay in full up front? What if the supplier goes out of business? Do you have the
facilities and personnel to unload containers safely and before demurrage charges come in?
These and many other questions give rise to concern for the importer. Own brands may seem a
good bet but remember what might seem to be a good buy can turn out badly at any part of
the supply chain from manufacturer to consumer.
0121 328 6824
www.impulsebathrooms.com
The Constance suite from Impulse Bathrooms
Correct firing of the clayware is also critical. If a
peak temperature in excess of 1200C is not
achieved full vitrification to British Standard may
not occur and ware may then absorb moisture.
The correct firing cycle time and control curve in
conjunction with the glaze and body materials are
essential to avoid finish and shape problems and
achieve good yields.
Battery casting is an efficient method of volume
production with reasonable flexibility. In battery
casting a clay slurry is pumped into a line of plaster
moulds. The moulds absorb the water from the
clay slurry and a layer of clay casts up on the
internal surfaces of the mould. After around 60-75
minutes the required clay thickness has built up
and the remaining clay slurry is then drained off
from the mould either by gravity or using
compressed air depending on the type of product.
The green pieces in the mould are then allowed to
firm up prior to demoulding commencing. During
demoulding, any holes are punched and mould
seams are tidied. The clay pieces are still very
fragile at this time and after demoulding they are
allowed to harden up before further clay finishing
and transport to a temperature and humidity
controlled dryer. Over about 8-12 hours the pieces
are completely dried. The dry clayware is now
about 20% smaller than the original piece
removed from the mould. It will shrink a further
10% during firing.

Bohle - the leading supplier of hardware & fittings,

Water saving is a major issue in
showering, says Nick McGrellis, MD
of Croydex but he adds that it is
crucial that performance is not
impaired. Croydex has the answer
with the Eco Function water saving
device that can be installed into the
majority of Croydex showerheads to
reduce water usage by as much as
50 percent on high pressure systems
delivering 1 bar or more. The device
works by reducing water volume
rather than pressure so it does not
affect the overall performance of the
shower. It can be removed at any
time.

here are an awful lot of ways to take a shower
from diverters and digital to eco and thermostatic
so buying from a one stop supplier who can deal
with everything can make life much easier.
Mira Showers offers the UKs most comprehensive
selection of showering products and is backed up by the
industrys best technical and sales support.
Buying everything from one place is always simpler,
especially if you choose a supplier who can meet all
your product, technical and service needs.
Water saving
Mira's Eco showerhead can reduce the amount of water used by up to 75 percent (compared to a
standard Logic showerhead at 0.5 bar) without compromising the shower experience. The ecoefficient
technology uses the Venturi principle by which air is introduced into the flow without using a pump.
Mixing air with the water spray creates larger droplets filled with air bubbles. The droplets explode on
impact to give a refreshing shower that uses less water and energy. The showerhead has Start, Soothe and
Force modes so users can choose their favourite.
Temperature control
With the amendments to Part G of the Building Regulations now well upon us, Mira has improved its Verve bath
shower mixer, which has now been certified to BuildCert TMV2. This ensures that it meets the amendments that set
maximum temperature limits for water delivered to baths. There are two versions one for wall mount installations
and a second with deck mount connectors so the filler can be mounted on the bath.
Dead simple
diverting
Miras latest diverter offer is the Discovery &
Diverter. Consisting of the Discovery thermostatic
in wall mixer shower with new diverter
technology, the shower allows the user to switch
between outlets. It is compatible with a range of
Mira shower and bath fittings, which allows the
customer to customise the shower room by using
the valve with a combination of different style
and performance elements. For example, the
Discovery & Diverter valve can be combined with
a prestige deluge head and hand shower or can
divert between shower and bath fill using one of
a selection of matching bath spouts developed to
complement the new product.
Thinking
digital
Mira Platinum can be programmed
to allow many different functions to
be set, including shower duration,
maximum and minimum
temperatures and flow rates as well
as warm up mode and eco mode.
There is even a clock display. The
new control valve uses RF

Matkis range of quality enclosures and wet rooms is
complemented by an extensive collection of high
performance brassware that includes shower valves
and bath and basin fillers.
The Walk-In Shower Surround with integrated water
delivery featuring a two way thermostatic shower
control has been a great success for Matki. The huge
benefit of two way control is that the user can adjust
temperature and flow from both inside and outside
the shower. There are also big advantages for the
installer. Taking the hot and cold supplies from floor
level plumbing really could not be simpler. Flexible
connections are pre-fitted to the shower column
ready for linking to the incoming supply, all with
easy access under the shower tray footboard. This
clever design links the supply, the shower surround
and the tray in perfect harmony.

To complete the look, Matki has a variety of bath, basin and bidet fillers. Although these were designed specifically for the
Blade range, there is now a wide choice of style. The EXD20/185 basin filler shown here is minimalist in style with handles
that mirror the design of the Blade shower mixer.
New Blade brassware
Matki has also introduced the new Blade shower
control and tap range. This range has user friendly lever
handles and clear markings for temperature and flow
rate. The Matki Click Control temperature regulator
makes the shower control simple and safe to use for the
whole family. The Blade Duo hand shower has been
designed with the environment in mind as a simple
turn of the hand shower rose reduces the flow rate to
11 litres per minute, delivering a satisfying shower
while saving on water and energy. A 220mm easy clean
Deluge showerhead is the perfect addition to the Blade
design and works well combined with the ultra slim
slide rail. This gives the user the choice of an overhead
or soft spray hand shower with eco setting.
The Elixir Classic concealed
thermostatic shower mixer is a popular
choice thanks to its timeless clean
design and easy to operate controls. It
is shown here with the EX009 wall
mounted shower combination. The all
brass body has been designed to fit into
a space of just 48mm, making it
suitable for modern, shallow walls.
Manufactured in the UK by Swadling
Brassware, a Matki company, the Elixir
mixer has been designed to suit all UK
plumbing systems and will deliver an
efficient shower at 0.1 bar with safe
temperature control up to 5 bar. To
answer the need for energy and water
conservation, all Matki and Swadling
hand showers and overhead deluge
showerheads are fitted with a free
optional flow reducer, which limits the
flow to a water saving 11 litres per
minute. These products are just part of
a wide range of showering products
manufactured by Matki varying from
luxury enclosures made using 10mm
thick safety glass to shower trays and
brassware, all produced at Matki
factories in Bristol, Redruth and
Waterlooville.

B
igger and busier than ever, ISH amply demonstrated that
Germany is back on top of its game, ruling Europe in the
bathroom and beyond. Polls conducted by Messe Frankfurt said
that German exhibitors and visitors were satisfied with the current
economic situation, According to the organisers, around 204,000
people attended the show. Certainly there were times when you stood
a good chance of being trampled underfoot going into hall 3.1 where
most of the big name sanitaryware manufacturers had their stands.
With 2,355 exhibitors in total (not all of them bathrooms as the show
is also for heating, air conditioning, pools etc), there was a lot to see.
Green issues or Blue Responsibility as the Germans were calling
it was a big thing so much so that the famous foot ache saving
ISH travo-lators between the halls were switched off presumably to
save energy.
The economic position of the bathroom industry in Germany is
certainly a contrast to the way things are here in the UK as Andreas
Dornbracht, Chairman of the Association of the German Sanitation
Industry explains. From the point of view of the German sanitation
industry, ISH 2011 reflected the positive economic climate prevailing
in the sector. Business is booming. The exhibition halls were full,
especially on the Thursday, which is traditionally the busiest day of all.
Against the background of a stable number of visitors from Germany,
we are particularly pleased about the significant increase in the
number of international visitors. All those visitors who did not come to
ISH 2009 because of the financial and business crisis were back this
year. We were especially struck by the remarkable proportion of
foreign visitors from markets that are set to become expanding export
markets for the German sanitation industry. Additionally, we once
again set new accents in an emotional form of communication with
our Pop-up-my-Bathroom trend forum, which was given a very
warm reception by bathroom builders. In other words, the ISH
represents an excellent start to the bathroom business for 2011.
After Germany the top visitor nations were Italy, France,
Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and the UK.
In a clear sign that recession is over in Germany, Villeroy & Boch
went for decoration both on its fabulous new My Nature luxury
collection with the option of a subtle self pattern of leaves on the
basin and on O.novo Style, a young, fun and funky collection. My
Nature takes V&B back to that lovely natural, clean look last seen with
New Haven and should be just as successful.
For sheer, cool, laid back style the Armani/ Roca collaboration
takes the prize. It is quite simply beautiful just like the great mans
clothes and should effectively move the perception of Roca up a notch
in the market. Just as in the kitchen sector, furniture colours were
subtle. The burgundy we saw everywhere last ISH has vanished
without trace, replaced by natural taupe, grey and white gloss.
Grohe says that Ondus Veris is rooted
in the philosophy of sensual
minimalism. This sleek, slimline design
is available in white, black and chrome
finishes and, according to Grohe,
blends sobriety with emotion. The
lines innovative design is perfectly
suited to the clean, restrained look of
cosmopolitan style bathrooms. It
includes a choice of single-lever faucets
for the basin and bath, all featuring
Grohe SilkMove for smooth and
precise handling. Wall-mounted fillers
designed to complement large
counter-mounted basins are available
with a choice of spout lengths.

water than a conventional bath of similar dimensions because of its shape.

Warren Ginsberg of HiB is a man who makes the most of exhibitions and ISH was no
exception. I have only been here a few hours and already I have spoken to potential
customers from ten different countries, he commented. The 112 sq.m stand showed a wide
range of mirrors and mirror cabinets including the all new rechargeable LED mirror. Demos
from HiB staff attracted a lot of attention and translators were available where needed. There
were several new designs specifically for the European market where larger mirrors are
preferred. Major interest centred on the new range of illuminated aluminium cabinets. This
was an entirely new experience for us, said Warren. We eventually came face to face with
customers from 57 countries and were overwhelmed by the level of interest in the products
and appreciation of the design and quality.
020 8441 0352

Rounded corners and aluminium trim were a distinct theme. Also gone
is the gold brassware seen last ISH. Chrome rules again although
Hansgrohes Ian McKinley reports great success for chrome and white.
Just about everybody who was anybody showed some sort of iphone
style app. Interactive controls were big too Jados sleek shower was
just like a big ipod with water.
Most of the exhibitors were mainland European though it was
nice to see some home faces in the shape of Phil, Mike and Ellie from
Pegler on their Dutch parent companys stand (rather curiously
designed as a series of airline cabins complete with jet take off noises
and female cabin crew in eye poppingly short outfits). Other familiar
names and faces included Methven, Vado and a few representatives
from Hull on Ideal Standard. A big well done to Ideal Standard for
some really nice, sellable furniture (see picture) and for an excellent
selection of showers and shower kits. Also on show were some of the
items launched in the UK a couple of months ago and the very clever
Ceramix Blue water and energy saving brassware range.
We really, really loved Duravit a fabulous effort as always with
Esplanade by Sergio Tchoban as the showpiece (read more about it on
page 29). The designer says he was inspired by the elegance of the
great boulevards of Paris and though not strictly period in style,
Esplanade does have an appealing turn of the century gracious living
look that adds a lot to Duravits portfolio.
With its square-edged look and high-fashion feel, Ideal Standard Strada is an attractive
modern bathroom collection. This complete range of slick ceramics and stylish furniture
brings a contemporary edge to the entire bathroom. Furniture and ceramics work in
harmony, giving a high-fashion feel with a directional but classic look that wont date. A
wide range of sizes and installation options are available. The collection is available in stylish
white or dark grey finishes and features smooth, sophisticated handles.

KERMI AT ISH
Kermi has been designing innovative shower and heating products for over 50 years
and is no stranger to design awards. ISH 2011 brought the prestigious iF Design
Award 2011 for the Walk-In system shown right. Also launched at ISH was a unique
and patented rising and sliding runner arrangement for the well established Atea
enclosure range to keep sliding doors clear of the floor.
The Kermi heating programme was boosted by the addition of extended colour
ranges, responding to the increasing demand for colour statements in the bathing
area. Four major colour groupings Soft, Nature, Ethno and Retro provide a vast
range of choice for colour afficionados, covering soft pastels, natural tones, earthy,
vivid ethnic statements and retro metallics. Shown here are a few of the colour

Dansani always has a really attractive stand for ISH. This year one of the highlights was
the Cadenza washbasin, which is compatible with Luna and Zaro furniture ranges. The

called Colour Splash, Bright Bazaar and Selected Nature. There are three new sizes- S/Small
for bathrooms of 2m, M/Medium for 2.5m spaces and L/Large for 3m and above. The
washstand area is the centrepiece of the Esprit Home guest bathroom with a new wall

itrAs skill at designing truly complete
collections that cover all the bases was
emphasised at ISH with the inspiring new
T4, additions to S-Line and the
comprehensive and affordably priced S20.
There was some inspiring new brassware
too, all displayed on a clean, spacious open

advantage.
Total Inspiration with T4
Sanitaryware, furniture, baths and brassware - T4 created for VitrA by the Noa Design Group
really does have it all. The key theme is restrained, classic elegance with rounded corners and
subtle furniture finishes that create a comfortable, relaxing look.
Basin units are trimmed with smart aluminium profile bands and have generous storage
space. Basins and furniture come in a good selection of sizes and can be used with wall or
counter top mounted mixers. The bath is big enough for two to bathe in comfort. In line with
VitrAs aim to be all things to all bathrooms, T4 includes a guest collection with a 50 by 30cm
basin and smaller size mixer. VitrAs furniture offer has improved immensely since the company
made acquisitions, so T4 furniture is both well designed and beautifully made. As well as the
basin units, the furniture collection also includes tall units, all with soft close. Mirror cabinets are
available in six sizes from 60 to 130cm and feature a halogen downlight on the underside to
illuminate the basin area.
There are several different basins
within the T4 range. This
countertop design features the
rounded edge design theme
that runs throughout and has a
practical put down area for
toiletries etc.
The T4 tap range features a
cascade spout and offers a
good flow rate.

undoubtedly the debut of the affordably priced S20 series, a real all

customers. WCs come in wall hung and floor standing formats and
have soft close seats. Standard basins are available as either full or
half pedestal versions, while vanity basins come as either on or
under counter. Furniture adds the finishing touch and is available in
white, cherry tree dcor, oak dcor, dark anthracite and hacienda
black. Theres also a selection of fittings designed to suit the special

In touch with taps
A selection of Vados Identity digital touch sensitive taps
were also on show at ISH. Identitys touch sensitive controls
change from blue through purple to red, depending on the
water temperature a very useful visual safety feature,
especially on thermostatic shower valves. Available in
square, scroll and open channel waterfall spout styles, there
is an Identity mixer to suit most contemporary bathroom
settings one of the reasons why this range has been such
a hit with customers.
While the main focus at ISH was on digital taps and
showers, a selection of non digital brassware was also on
display including shower valves, wall and deck mounted
basin mixers and bathroom accessories from ranges such as
Life, Soho and Synergie giving visitors the chance to
experience the style and quality on offer first hand.

SH is V&Bs show and as always the stand was packed with new ideas.
My Nature marked V&B back to its very best - a collection reminiscent of
the iconic and very successful New Haven range launched some years
ago. Other highlights included a new look for the Memento collection,
Futurion Flat shower trays, stunning use of colour on La Belle baths and
the birth of the 360 project for architects and planners that divides
products into four distinct groups to suit different projects. Orange is the
entry level and to mark this ISH saw the launch of the O.novo ceramic
and bath collection, O.novo Style featuring decorated sanitaryware and
the Frame to Frame furniture and shower enclosure range.

Natural Beauty
The central element of My Nature is a
sweeping wash stand in chestnut which is
available in various forms. The basin is a
shapely shallow oval either in white or in
new Castanea dcor which is a soft leaf
pattern, deep textured but with filigree
elements. The furnishings are solid and at
the same time airy in design and practical
down to the tiniest detail. The wash stand
vanity unit has a space-saving built-in towel
holder and the console drawer has a
removable tray.
The eye-catcher in the collection is the
generously proportioned bathtub (pictured
left). It is available in three variations and
rests on a plinth which can be chestnut or
white matt. Alternatively, it can be fitted
with a smaller wooden platform, also
available in white matt.
The LAura brassware collection is
designed to complement My Nature.
The contemporary, linear Memento range has a brand new look for 2011. Shown here (right)
is the Memento basin with Shape furniture. Memento now includes Bright Oak, the new,
exclusive furniture finish a genuine oak veneer with a textured grain to create exciting tactile
and visual contrasts to ceramic and glass elements. Also new is matt ceramic in Edelweiss and
the Squaro Superflat shower tray, also in fine white or Edelweiss. The Memento guest
bathroom extends the range to smaller areas with vanities and side cupboards that make the
most of limited space and offer valuable storage.
Making a splash with colour
Colour was in short supply at ISH, but V&B opted for some bright
splashes on its La Belle bath which featured an apron in either
Raspberry Red Framboise or Graphite Noire (shown left). The Loop
basin also appeared in rich Cassis, a juicy blackberry shade. Elegant
earth tones are a fashionable choice in interior design. Villeroy & Boch
interpreted this trend with Terra matt on the Sentique and Shape
furniture collections.
Fun, young at heart O.novo Style is part
of the new entry level O.novo range
that gives buyers a chance to create a
really individual statement. We
developed O.novo Style for people who
want to bring more design, more colour
and more joie de vivre to their everyday
lives, explains Vessela Carrillo, product
manager for O.novo Style. An oval basin
and a double door vanity are the central
pieces in O.novo Style. The
contemporary dcor and colour variants
provide the individuality: there are three
floral-abstract dcors to choose from for
the basins - Playground, Pretty
Silhouette and Cherry Blossom all
available in the colour schemes of blue,
orange and violet. Furniture can be
colour co-ordinated. Using the online configurator at www.villeroy-

asins with a world of possibilities from the Bouroullec
brothers took centre stage on the Hansgrohe stand. A
whole wall of them showed the many clever
combinations possible using the range and there was also
a demonstration of a clever interactive app to help
designers and customers choose their ideal basin and
brassware selection.

The choice is yours
The Axor Bouroullec collection with over 70 products: mixers, accessories, wash basins and bath
tubs give the user freedom to create an ensemble that best suits their needs. The position of the
mixer is not pre-determined: you can decide where to locate the spout and handles, and also
whether to make them rim-mounted, tile-mounted or wall-mounted. Softly shaped integrated
shelves permit flexible positioning of the mixer or provide personal storage space. They can be
cleverly used in all areas of the bathroom - shower, wash basin or bath tub. The design
throughout is soft and free flowing with no corners or edges.
Protruding just 60 millimetres
from the wall, the Raindance Lift is
one of the flattest shower panels
available. Thanks to this
minimalist, slender appearance
and the corner-mounting option,
comfortable freedom of
movement is possible even in a
small shower area. The body of
the white shower panel with
chrome-coloured edges merges
into the twin jet overhead shower
via a gentle curve. The handle at
the lower end of the body can be
used to smoothly slide the
complete Raindance Lift up or
down by up to 200 millimetres.
The control unit integrated into
the shower panel also moves so
that children or shower users of
different heights can create the
perfect distance from the
overhead shower and the mixers.
If specific areas need to be
targeted, the PuraVida manual
shower can be used.
Thermostatic valves are Hansgrohes key area of expertise. The new Ecostat Select
valve is a real winner, It has a flat shelf top which can be either glass or an opaque
white material, really easy to use side controls and clear markings on the shelf top
to make operation simple - recognition at last that many consumers find it hard to
work out how to select flow and temperature on some bar valves.
Attractive new star shaped handles for the
Axor Citterio M collection are softly curved

A new anti-slip finish that fades almost invisibly into the
surface of the shower tray but retains its safe underfoot
qualities has been developed by Kaldeweis team of
enamelling experts. It is available on any colour in the
Coordinated Colours Collection and is made from a
combination of quartz and sand which is burnt into the
steel creating a structured anti-slip surface that will
never wear away. The finish is available on Conoflat,
Superplan, Superplan Plus and Superplan XXL trays.
kaldewei
A
n elegant contemporary stand and a mix of
new products and technology that combined
style with genuine user benefits emphasised
Kaldeweis move towards recognition as a higher
end product. The company are experts in the art of
enamelling and showed their skills off to good
effect with the launch of a stunning matt finish and
a new, more visually pleasing, anti-slip for flat
shower trays.
Asymmetric Duo
The new Asymmetric Duo bath ticks the boxes for being
both beautiful and useful. A wide rim on one side (which is
proportional to the size of the bath) provides a shelf for
toiletries, a book or a drink or can be a seat when it is on the
outside edge. The rim can be 12cm, 15.5cm or 18.5cm
depending on the size of the bath. Inside, the tub area has a
lovely flowing shape and a rectangular enamelled waste that
fits absolutely flush to the surface. The overflow can be
positioned on either the side with the wide rim or opposite.
Asymmetric Duo is available in 170 by 80cm, 180 by 90cm
and 190 by 100cm sizes.
Black Beauty
Enamel is by its nature shiny so making it matt is really tricky
- but Kaldewei has done it. Conoduo and Ellipso Duo are
now available in matt Arctic White or Lava Black. The black is
really effective - on the stand the Conoduo bath was shown
with a Conoflat tray also in Lava Black to make a fabulous
style statement.
Superplan Plus
The Superplan flat tray range has been a great success for Kaldewei and is now boosted by
the addition of Superplan Plus which features a round outflow cover that blends almost
invisibly into the surface of the tray. Superplan Plus is available in 12 sizes from 90 by 90cm
to 120 by 120cm. Options include Kaldeweis easy-clean surface or anti-slip enamelling.
More sizes for
Conoflat
There are 12 new sizes in the best selling
Conoflat shower tray range - bringing
the total on offer to 29 ranging from 80
by 80cm to a generous 90 by 170cm.
The square central outflow on all
Conoflat trays sits flush with the surface
and blends in almost invisibly.

The Desire range is a collection of
enclosures that turns the concept
that 'the sliding mechanism on an
enclosure with a sliding door must
be at the top of the enclosure' on
its head by incorporating it into the
base of the enclosure, for the

New to the Embrace range is the Folding Bath Screen (above)

Everybodys Darling
The Darling bathroom range, created by
Duravit in collaboration with designer
Dieter Sieger, was unveiled in 1994.
Duravit has now returned its attention to
this affordable range together with Dieter
Sieger's sons, Michael and Christian
Sieger, developing it into Darling New.
From the large choice of basins and
furniture washbasin through to the Senso-
Wash shower shower-toilet seat the new
programme upholds the original idea of
"plenty of design for little money".
D
uravit always has a showpiece collection
for ISH. This year star billing went to
Esplanade designed by Sergei Tschoban - but
that wasnt all. Darling has been a hit since
launch in the 1990s. Darling New is a rework
that is as good as the original. Philippe Starck
has been busy too with new furniture, basins
and iconic sanitaryware and the St. Trop steam
shower. Nahho from EOOS is a flotation bath,
complete with underwater music and there
were also three geometric Paiova Monolith
baths. Onto is a new basin and bath collection
from Matteo Thun where the basin and console
are one smooth, seamless piece. The range also
includes furniture and baths that include a deep
Japanese style immersion tub.

The New
Nostalgia
Best described as tasteful opulence,
Esplanade by Sergio Tchoban is a
clever combination of grand 19th
century design and uncluttered
modern styling. The historical
reference is clear to see in the bath
which has a raised shoulder area,
rather like a chaise longue and in the
basins where the tap platform is
rather higher than the front, giving a
shapely line at the sides. The furniture
is available in oak (dark) and silk
(white) and has leather loop handles.
The base vanity unit which Philippe
Starck designed for his Starck 1
bathroom range back in 1994 is
one of the best-known items of
bathroom furniture. Starck has now
introduced geometric variations to
this conical form. The "barrel" as it is
affectionately known, is now also
available as a cylinder and a cuboid.
At the same time, the designer has
created new rectangular low
cabinets which also take up the
geometric variations with a variety
of console washbasins ranging from
circular to tri-oval, plus new mirrors
and mirror cabinets.
The Nahho flotation bath from EOOS is the ultimate in
bathroom indulgence with options that include lighting, a
spa system and music. The sound module uses Bluetooth to
establish a connection with an MP3 player or mobile phone
and the bathtub itself serves as a sounding body. The sound
is transmitted via structure-borne sound converters and can
be enjoyed above and under water. Technical elements such
as tap fitting or spotlights are concealed behind a furniture
flap in white or matt graphite finish.
Designed by Philippe Starck, the St. Trop steam shower
takes up no more than one square metre of floor space.
Features include Starck tap fittings with a luxury overhead
shower and a control panel that activates a powerful steam
bath for maximum relaxation. At the touch of a button, the
temperature climbs to between 42 and 50
o
C at a humidity
of 100 percent for a set 20 minutes. The frame of the
cubicle, designed by Starck to emulate a picture frame, is
available in all Duravit furniture colours.

has won the Red Dot design award.
The Kaha Satinjet range (right) delivers nine litres

with wall mounted bracket, Kaha Satinjet
showerhead with wall mounted arm, Kaha Satinjet

The range also includes thermostatic valves and a

The new nine litres a minute Kiri Satinjet range features ten single
function designs with smooth bevelled edges that intersect with
rectangular and circular shapes. Showers in the collection include
an overhead and a height adjustable rail with in-line diverter with
water inlet that replaces the need for a two outlet mixer valve
(high pressure only). Other designs in the range are suitable for
use with all water pressures. Thermostatic mixer valves come in a
choice of two vertical designs and the tap range includes six
fittings including a basin mixer, wall mounted single lever basin
mixer, three hole deck mounted basin and bath mixers and a

Based in the Dartmoor area just a few miles from
the raw materials needed for manufacturing,
British Ceramic Tile produces wall and floor tiles
under several different brands including British
Ceramic Tile, Laura Ashley, Wet by Hemingway
Design and Studio Conran. The company is proud
of its association with the Dartmoor area where
the proximity of the raw materials mean that
fewer miles are covered, keeping prices down and
reducing the impact on the environment.
The various tile ranges are sold through
independent retailers and a network of distributors
as well as being specified through national
contracts and by housebuilders. The distribution
network gives a good geographical spread across
the country and allows the company to keep in
touch with the needs of its customers across
different market sectors. Own brand designs are
produced exclusively for a number of DIY
multiples including Homebase, Focus, Wickes, Tile
Giant and Topps Tiles. The in-house design team
works hard to ensure that all ranges offer choice,
flexibility and the ability to co-ordinate with
kitchen and bathroom products.
In 2010 British Ceramic Tile began exporting
its products worldwide and currently sells to over
35 different countries.

You will probably associate the RAK name with bathroom
fittings but the company is also one of the worlds largest
manufacturers of ceramic and porcelain tiles, using
innovative technology to produce stunning, on trend
ranges at competitive prices.
B
ased in Ras al Khaimah, Rak has advanced capabilities that allow it to respond
competitively with new products that meet market trends and demand. Examples of this
are Nanoprint and Digital print processes that use high density printing technology to
create marble and natural stone finishes on porcelain. The technique achieves a natural variance
of shade and surface texture that is barely discernible from the real thing. Large formats of up to
100 by 30cm allow a natural stone surface to be almost uninterrupted by joints, giving a
professional finish at an affordable price.
Porcelain as a material is undergoing a huge expansion. It has unrivalled durability and can
be made in very large formats and in a range of finishes. RAK manufactures the largest slabs in
the industry at 180 by 120cm.
New porcelain products from RAK include Dolomite in 50 by 20cm and 60 by 30cm sizes,
The surface has a unique clouded finish and the tiles are rectified to give thinner grout lines for
continuity of surface. In kitchens, the Rainbow and Lotus ranges are back in vogue with the
resurgence of interest in 10 by 10cm format tiles.

Surface materials distributor IDS has launched a Corporate Social responsibility
brochure setting out the companys commitment to the environment, business
and the community. The policy covers sustainability, environmental issues,
responsible product sourcing, waste minimisation, supply chain, quality
assurance, transport, equality, diversity, health and safety, charitable donations
and training and development. IDS plans logistics carefully to reduce its carbon
footprint. Every year the company moves around 72,000 tonnes of panel
products through its three railheads and by importing direct from Europe using
rail freight takes the equivalent of 3300 long haul vehicles off the road annually.
Surfaces from Granite Transformations are
usually used in kitchens but played a
starring role in bathrooms featured in the
tv property series, Beenys Restoration
Nightmare. The material was used for
cladding walls and bath surrounds in the
bathroom for the bridal suite, in two
shower rooms and the dramatic Dream
Green bathroom. It was also used for
300mm square floor tiles in all five
completed rooms.
The opportunity to be on tv arose when Sarah Beeny and her husband Graham Swift realised that material from
Granite Transformations was perfect for cladding bathroom walls. Danny Hanlon, Chief Operating Officer at Granite
Transformations was delighted to become involved in the project, eventually supplying around 115 square metres of
agglomerate slabs and 30 square metres of floor tiles plus materials and installation by qualified fitters. Sarah was
delighted by the end result and is already talking to Danny Hanlon about upgrading six more bathrooms with a
plan to reface existing splashbacks and tiles.
