EXERCISE 1
INTRODUCTION
One of the tasks of radio network dimensioning is to convert the customer input data predictions of e.g. number of subscribers, morphology, traffic distribution and data volumes into something which can be used in the radio network dimensioning. It is not always that the input data easily conforms into the services that are provided by the radio network.

TASK
Use the customer input data below and derive a suitable set of radio network dimensioning data (peak hour data volume and traffic per user and service) for the first three years of the radio network. Assume that the peak hour for data traffic is the same as for voice (this may lead to an overdimensioning of the radio network)1 and make other necessary assumptions. Assume also that the morphology and traffic distribution is the same for data as for voice.

EXERCISE 2
WCDMA CELLULAR DESIGN ANOTHER DIMENSIONING EXAMPLE INTRODUCTION
In this exercise two circuit switched services are treated as if they each have a dedicated set of resources. This is not true since they share a common pool of resources but since multi-erlang blocking probabilities are cumbersome to calculate manually we proceed using this assumption. So similar requirements as in the design project but Assume that it is desired to calculate how many three-sector sites with TMAs are required to provide 95 % indoor coverage to a 15 km2 urban area with 100000 subscribers according to the following traffic figures2:
Traffic per subscriber (busy hour) Uplink/Downlink 25 mE / 25 mE 5 mE 700 kbph1 / 700 kbph1 Voice Activity factor 50% Best Effort

Service
Speech 13 kbps CS64 Packet 128 kbps
1

User traffic has been increased by 10% due to re-transmission

To avoid problems of comparison, assume that Okumura-Hata is valid even if the range in the urban area is below 1 km For each load tried, remember that the loading equation fulfilled is given by Load = (Mspeech/Mmax, speech) + (MCS64/Mmax, CS64) Do the iteration and site-count optimisation only for the uplink but remember to check if the best effort packed data fits in the end.

These figures for speech and data are usually rather cumbersome to obtain. Speech GoS = 2%, CS64 GoS = 5%
