Date: To: From: Re: 1/26/2008 THIS tv Affiliates Kyle Walker, Director of Engineering / Operations THIS Network Engineering Affiliate Network Configuration Guide: OPTION 1 AFFILIATES REV B

This document describes the affiliate configuration for OPTION 1 affiliates. OPTION 1 affiliates are affiliates who have chosen to use their own video servers, switchers, MPEG encoders, etc. OPTION 2 affiliates are affiliates who are using THIS BoX!, an all-in-one video server/automation system/MPEG encoding system from Thomson Grass Valley Group that is available now. A PDF brochure is available for download at www.thisaffiliate.com in the Engineering Specs section. Contact your local Thales/Thomson/GVG rep for details. THIS Network is distributed to affiliates digitally via C-Band satellite AMC-3 transponder 7. THIS tv uses QPSK-DVB modulation and MPEG2 4:2:0 encoding. Currently, THIS tv is in the clear and is not scrambled. THIS tv is designed to be fully automated and interfaces to your automation system via GPI triggers that will trigger your automation system to run local commercial breaks as well as other various events. As noted in previous documents, there are several required pieces needed for OPTION 1 affiliates: 1) 3.8M C-Band Satellite Antenna on AMC-3. Each affiliate will need a minimum 3.8 meter satellite receive antenna and digital satellite receiver (IRD) dedicated to THIS on a full time basis. Smaller antennas will give un-predictable results and will likely result in a picture that cuts in and out and suffers tiling. 2) Tandberg TT-1221, Network IRD (Satellite Receiver). Each affiliate will need a Tandberg TT-1221 IRD. Please note that the TT-1221 MUST have the options noted in the Affiliate Technical document. For the latest documents and for all previously published documents, log on to http://www.thisaffiliate.com . The network specified configuration has a QPSK input and two configurable ASI/SDI outputs. Output one is configured as an embedded SDI output. Output two is configured as an ASI output. The Tandberg TT-1221 may ONLY be substituted for the Tandberg TT-1260 under the same configuration. The Tandberg IRD should not be substituted for any other equivalent IRDs. It will not work properly with the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter or Norpak SCTE-35 to GPI converter and will suffer network timing issues that will affect the timing signals being sent to your automation system.

3) Ensemble Designs 5420, Network Logo Inserter. Each affiliate will need a 5420 Network Logo Inserter to insert the THIS tv lower bug. To accommodate affiliates who do not have an Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter at network launch, the network will insert the generic THIS logo in the lower right corner. BEGINNING 2/1/2009, THERE WILL NOT BE A NETWORK LOGO. Each affiliates Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter will insert a THIS logo bug, artwork provided by the network, that will brand your station locally. (THIS Chicago, THIS Dallas, etc.) Network GPI triggers will trigger your local bug in and out during program segments. This box serves a second purpose, local station IDs. Network triggers will also trigger your local station ID. This artwork will be provided by the network and will be triggered by the network at the appropriate time. Since the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter will not go online 2/1/2009, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCAL STATION IDs at the top of each hour. It is recommended that you insert a lower third key in the lower left corner. To keep affiliate costs at a minimum, the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter does not support EAS crawls. Each affiliate will be responsible for local EAS requirements when applicable. THIS Network engineering is currently testing the Evertz 9625A SD Logo Inserter. In addition to Network Logo Insertion functions, it will also support EAS crawls and audio breakaway. Affiliates will be notified once this optional NLI is available for air use. 4) Norpak TSD-100, Affiliate Trigger Decoder. Each affiliate will need a Norpak TSD-100 Affiliate Trigger Decoder. THIS Network sends SCTE-35 triggers that are embedded in the transport stream. The Norpak box decodes these embedded triggers and translates them to GPO triggers to connect to your automation system and the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter. Without this unit, you cannot insert the THIS local bug, trigger local commercial insertion, etc. The TSD-100 has 8 GPOs and are used as follows: GPO Trigger #1: THIS LOCAL BUG. Connects to the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter to insert the local THIS bug / LOGO 1 (THIS Chicago, THIS Dallas, etc). This trigger will become active 2/1/09. On-line testing for this trigger will begin 1/26/09 at 10:00a EST. GPO Trigger #2: COMMERCIAL INSERTION. Connects to your automation system to trigger local commercial breaks. This trigger has a 2 second pre-roll. It will momentary trigger 2 seconds before a local commercial insertion should begin. Should your facility not have an automation system and plan to operate manually, it is recommended that this trigger connect to a buzzer or other alerting device to notify operators when the local commercial breaks begin. GPO Trigger #3: LOCAL ID. Connects to the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter to insert your local station ID / LOGO 2 (WCIU-DT 26.4 CHICAGO for example). This trigger will become active 2/1/09. On-line testing for this trigger will begin 1/26/09 at 10:00a EST. GPO Trigger #4: :20 PROMO ROLL-OVER. Connects to your automation system to trigger :20 promotional roll-overs. During some network breaks, promos may air for programming that your local station is not airing. This trigger is available to allow the local affiliate to roll-over with local :20 promotions. This trigger will become active 3Q 2009. GPO Trigger #5: :10 PROMO ROLL-OVER. Connects to your automation system to trigger :10 promotional roll-overs. During some network breaks, promos may air for programming that your local station is not airing. This trigger is available to allow the local affiliate to roll-over with local :10 promotions. This trigger will become active 3Q 2009.

GPO Trigger #6: SNIPE ROLL-OVER. Connects to your automation system to trigger local Dekocast or similar banner roll-overs. During programming, now/next banners will appear and you may not be airing the programming advertised in the banner as next. This trigger allows you to make a local now/next banner to key over the network. This trigger will become active 3Q 2009. GPO Trigger #7 and #8 are workaround triggers needed for the Ensemble Designs Network Logo Inserter. See AFFILIATE EQUIPMENT LAYOUT schematic for all wiring and configurations. All required components are not substitutable. You may not replace it with something that should work. It will not be compatible. Since this is an automation driven network, timing is critical. All systems above have been tested as a system. THIS Network engineering is currently testing the Evertz 9625A SD Logo Inserter. In addition to Network Logo Insertion functions, it will also support EAS crawls and audio breakaway. Affiliates will be notified once this optional NLI is available for air use.
