Foreign Publications “Organisation of waste less production in steel
industry”. Journal of Environmental control and rational
utilization of natural resources. Donetsk, 1992 Vol.
1517 #2. pp.27 – 31
- An integrated system comprising three waste - recycling technologies is developed:
the application of sludge after thickening to cool the sinter returns and to humidify the
dried components of the sinter burden in place of water; the mechanical treatment of
the sludge for use in the sintering process; the blending of the sludge with dried
wastes.
- Considering the fact that some wastes are hydrophobic materials and a great
numbers of fine materials are found in the sinter burden, the nodulization of waste
mix after the blender and charging of the produced micropellets of sizes 2 – 7 mm
into the burden mixer is proposed.

Shear stress-shear strain relationship model for deep drawn metals have been developed
using the classical Bernouilli-Euler beam theory. The relationship is derived from the macro
mechanical properties of the metal and its tool geometry. The model was used to determine
the degree of disorder of the crystal structure (λ), the Taylor hardening factor (M) and
dislocation density (K). The developed empirical model can account for small strains in the
zone where Voce relation fails. This developed analytical model can be used at the quality
control department to determine the homogeneities recovery of rolled sheets after annealing
and the likely presence of residual stresses that could enhance stress corrosion cracking.

- The paper examines the variation of the plastic strain ratio (R), dislocation density
(K), degree of deformation (ɣ) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of this alloy in
relation to the orientation of rolling using macromechanically based stress and strain

Proceedings: The Third International Conference on

This paper studies the quench sensitivity of AA 6063. Air, water, brine, spent automobile
engine oil and palm olein oil are used as the cooling media. Artificial aging of five of the
samples after solution treatment (5600C, at 1 hour) is done at 1750C for 8 hours. The study
reveals that the volume and size of the intermetallic Mg2Si formed, which is dependent on
the severity of the quenchants affects the mechanical properties of AA 6063. Optimum
combination of hardness, tensile strength and ductility over the extruded properties can be
obtained with cooling in brine solution after solution treatment.

This paper examines the corrosion behaviour of aluminium (AA 1017) alloy in
different domestic food – cooking at a temperature other than ambient temperature. The
annealed aluminum alloy, which was heated and left standing in the air showed a higher

refrigerator showed remarkably low level of corrosion in the 288 – hour duration of the
experiment.

Effects of Quenching Variables on the Fracture
Toughness of 0.3 C Hypo – Eutectoid Plain Carbon Steel.
Proceedings 2nd International Conference on Engineering
Research and Developments: Innovations, ICERD08030:
15 – 17 April, 2008, University of Benin, Benin City, 2008
pp. 145 - 151
The paper studies the relative influence of austenizing temperature, quenching media,
soaking time, size and shape of materials, and surface condition on the fracture response of
plain carbon steel. The study reveals that the fracture toughness decreases with increasing
austenitizing temperature and soaking time; and rise when quenching is delayed or at
increased plate thickness. Fracture toughness is higher when quenched in oil than in brine
solution. The oil and greasy surface records higher value of fracture toughness than clean
surface. These results are attributed to the differential distribution of the phase of
martensite, ferrite (pearlite) and retained austenite.

Issues in Nigeria Steel Development. RPS
Publishing Company, Lagos. ISBN-978-065-431-3,
2004, 44 pp
- This paper identifies and evaluates the circumstances (raw material base, the energy
requirement and human resource) under which the development of steel industry in
Nigeria is desirable and economically justified.
- A critical appraisal of the blast furnace technology in the face of new technologies
such as the Corex and Fastmet has been attempted.
- It defines the opportunities for the steel development and derives recommendations
as to the governmental and non-governmental role and approach to support the
target sector.
