Discussion: According to the AHP monograph for Skullcap Aerial Parts, the characteristic microscopic features of skullcap powder are fragments of leaf epidermis with diacytic and anomocytic stomata; glandular scales and bases of broken covering trichomes; fragments of covering trichomes with striated cuticle; parenchyma and fibers of the stem, with some vessels; few fragments of petals. The presence of features representing other plant species was not detected in the test sample. Final conclusion: The test sample #SKU-W2O11, W2O12 is characteristic of Scutellaria lateriflora L. based on its similarity to the authenticated reference sample and to the reference images and descriptions provided with the above cited pharmacopoeial reference.
