INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

Proposed Revised Curriculum of Electronic Engineering Higher Education Commission of Pakistan emphasizes on the recommendations of its National Curriculum Revision Committee in almost all the disciplines of Higher Education including various disciplines of engineering. These recommendations are to be implemented by the relevant Universities. Electronic Engineering has become a measure of development of a country, the enormous impact of this field can be felt in almost all walks of life in the modern societies, as well as on all the faculties & disciplines of engineering. It is, therefore, rightly in demand, both in developed and developing countries of the world. HEC-NCRC-EE 2003 recommendations have been implemented throughout the country & the recommendations of HEC-NCRC-EE 2006 have been finalized in the final meeting of HEC-NCRC-EE-2006 held in Karachi on 19 th & 20th June 2006. Continuous advances in this field in areas of materials, processes, devices & circuits have led to rapid advances in the existing applications in Engineering as well as in the emergence of new applications. Learning Objectives: With slight modifications, to cater the need of the students of IIU, the recommended proposals of HEC on the curriculum of Electronic Engineering have been adopted with the following objectives. 1. To teach the students both the fundamentals & advanced concepts of Electronic Engineering with emphasis laid on the use of these concepts, to further advance the state of Electronic Engineering expertise to meet the needs of industry etc. 2. 3. 4. To place emphasis on Hands On Expertise & Experience To train the students and to provide effective leadership & decision making skills. To provide verbal & written communication expertise & comprehension.

5.

To teach the students, the principles and skills that make them responsible human being & good engineers, through guidance provided by professional and Social Ethics, Engineering Management and Engineering Economics.

EE Curriculum Review Fundamentals per HEC Recommendations: The Curriculum of Electronic Engineering Undergraduate Program is based on the following structure provided by HEC: Duration of the Course : Total Duration: Total number of Semesters: Duration of a Semester: Number of Credit Hours/Semester: Total # of Credit Hours: Contact Hours: Four (04) Calendar Years. Eight (08). Sixteen (16) weeks of instructions. One (01)to two (02) weeks for examinations. 15 18 Credit Hours / Semester. 133 136 Credit Hours. One Contact Hour per week for each Credit-Hour of instructions. Three (03) Contact Hours per week for each Credit Hour of laboratory work. Curriculum Weightage: Ratio of Engineering Verses Non-Engineering Courses Percentage of Engineering Courses (minimum) Percentage of Non-Engineering Courses (maximum) = 65 70 %. = 30 35 %.
