GRAZING MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS - CARING FOR YOUR LIVESTOCK STARTS WITH CARING FOR YOUR LAND
Landholders in South East Queensland (SEQ) have recently benefited from three pasture management workshops held in Upper Yarraman, Wivenhoe and Toogoolawah, hearing from local experts on ways to maximise beef production, maintain healthy cattle and run a more profitable grazing business by keeping their land and pastures in good condition. Simple ways to maintain pasture in good health were explained, including: basic grazing management principles; how to identify key indicator species in native and introduced pastures; tips on how to check your pasture condition; recommendations on suitable sown grasses & legumes for different land types in SEQ; and how to establish and manage sown pastures.
Photosworkshops held in Upper Yarraman mid 2012 The workshops highlighted the benefits of high levels of groundcover in minimising erosion, which can improve condition of waterways as well as healthier soils with increased water retention. Participants were also invited to visit a local property at each session to discuss grazing management practices and pasture condition in the paddock.
