YOUth & Conflict


Date: 5-13 October, 2013 Venue: Kobuleti, Georgia

This training course explores adolescence, youth culture, popular culture, participation, the concept of citizenship, conflict transformation, and youth work, linking in with the recognition of youth work in different countries.

Aim
To explore how to overcome issues of youth culture in conflict with society in order to work towards stronger participation of young people in society

Objectives
~ To study and understand better the concept of adolescence ~ To understand better what it is that young people fight against ~ To understand better why it is that society is so often scared of including young people ~ To explore the phenomena of youth protest peaceful and violent ~ To understand better the concept of citizenship ~ To know how to use conflict transformation tools for better youth work ~ To learn about youth work and how to promote it for recognition LANGUAGE: The language of the course will be English. Participants should be proficient in English. SCHEDULE AND OUTLINE: Arrival: 5thof October before 12.00 Departure: 13th October in the early morning All participants will be met at the airport and taken to Kobuleti by bus. A final program will be forwarded to participants 1 week prior to the training. THE VENUE: Hotel: Seashell Information about Georgia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_(country) Accommodation includes shared double/triple rooms, on full board, coffee breaks and the use of conference facilities. Participants will be sharing a double or triple room with one or two people of the same sex. Each room has one bathroom; towels and bed lines are provided.

! Note: Organisers will not provide any accommodation for additional stay in Georgia. If participants plan to arrive a few days earlier or depart a few days later they are kindly requested to inform us and we will be glad to offer assistance with booking a hotel. TRAVELLING TO GEORGIA: Participants from EU countries are allowed to travel by plane to Tbilisi, Batumi or Kutaisi. Participants from Azerbaijan and Armenia are requested to travel by train or bus. The cheapest flight connections to Tbilisi are via Riga (Air Baltic), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Kiev (Georgian and Ukrainian airlines) .You can also find connections through Munich or Frankfurt (Lufthansa) and Vienna (Austrian Airlines or Georgian AIRZENA). To Batumi you can fly through BELAVIA, Turkish Airlines and Ukrainian AEROSVIT. To Kutaisi you can fly through Wizz Air. ! Note: Participants are not able to arrive to Georgia few days before or depart few days later, just one day can be difference, so please try to find tickets on exact dates : arrival 5th of October departure 13th of October. TRANSPORT TO AND FROM THE VENUE: Upon arrival, participants will be picked up from the airport, train or bus station by one of our volunteers. They will be the ones holding up a paper with the title of the PROJECT (i.e.YOUth&Conflict). All participants will be provided with the contact details of our team in Georgia before travelling, in case there are any travel of flight delays. Before departure, participants will be taken to the airport, train or bus station. TRAVEL COSTS: 70% of participants travel costs from their home city to Kobuleti, Georgia will be reimbursed . According to the rules of YiA program, and in order to comply with environmental standards, we kindly ask all participants to take the most environmentally friendly and cost effective alternative available. Also, we will cover the costs of further transportation related to the training, such as the sightseeing tour once in Georgia. ! Note: Reimbursement of travel costs will only be done upon presentation of all (including return tickets) original tickets, receipt/invoices and boarding passes. This means that once home after the training, participants will be asked to send the originals of all return documents and boarding passes. Please remember to bring the original invoices there will be no reimbursement without the original invoices and tickets with indicated Names of travellers, description of the journey, indentification of cost and currency and date of travel.

!! Note: If participants pay for their ticket with a credit card, they are requested to bring along the confirmation of payment (i.e. credit card slip and/or bank statement). !!! Note: Reimbursement will be done in EUR, regardless of the currency indicated on the ticket and receipt/invoice. Any tickets purchased in a local currency other than EUR, will then be converted and calculated according to the exchange rate of the month when the grant agreement for this project will be signed by the NA, as stated in the official European Commission web-site at

Reimbursement will be done during two weeks after the project ends. We kindly ask you to bring along your bank account details, as we will make a bank transfer. !!!! Note: The minibuses from Tbilisi to Kobuleti and back will be provided by the organisers. Participants will be asked to pay 30% of the travel cost Tbilisi- Kobuleti-Tbilisi. The trip will not cost more than 20 EUR/person (return). !!!!! Note: Please check Annex 1 for the travel budget limits at the end of this document. If travel costs exceed the amount budgeted in the project, the organisers will only be able to reimburse participants 70% of the maximum travel costs indicated in the travel budget. Participants are therefore strongly advised to book trip travel well in advance. !!!!!! Note: Finally, please make copies (or even better, scan or take photographs) of all tickets and invoices and email these toleilatevonian@gmail.combefore attending the training. This will be very helpful to organisers to begin processing the financial and reimbursement data so that all payments may be made as efficiently as possible. The following only applies to participants travelling by plane: Please RESERVE the tickets, but DO NOT BUY them before consulting with the organisers. Reimbursement is only possibly for tickets bought from August 20 If more than 10 people choose to do so, we can arrange a group ticket with a better fare (in all cases, participants still need to keep and submit the boarding passes from the airport's check-in). VISA ARRANGEMENTS: Georgia is not yet in the EU so please bring along your passports! EU citizens and TC other participant countries do not need visas to enter Georgia. HEALTH INSURANCE: Health insurance is not provided and will not be reimbursed by the organisers. All participants are strongly advised to purchase private travel insurance, as costs of private health care in Georgia are quite high. WEATHER: The weather in Georgia in October is generally good, you can expect temperatures of around 20-25 degrees. Please bear in mind that the evenings can get cool so bring some warmer clothes as well. Kobuleti is located on the coast of the Black Sea, and sometimes if the weather is good people are swimming in the sea, so please bring your swimming suits if you want to swim PREPARATION: If a participant represents an organisation, kindly bring information and materials about the organisation, i.e. photos and reports from former projects and further material, which will help to present the organisation to the other participants. Furthermore, we kindly ask all participants to bring some national drink, snacks and music from their home countries, as a contribution to the intercultural evenings! PRACTICALITIES: We have Wi-Fi in the hotel but still please note it can work not properly every place in the hotel. In Kobuleti, there are internet cafs and business rooms in some other hotels,but beingrequested to fully participate in the programme,internet access during the training course will be rather limited. Euro and US Dollars can be easily exchanged across Georgia. ATMs (cash machines) are very popular in Kobuleti. Cash is the preferred payment alternative; these facilities are available not far from the hotel. The type of electric plugs in Georgia is European.
