Military Boots Pattern

Here are Boots and Slippers for use around the house that will permit you to add to your wardrobe not tax the facilities of hard pressed manufacturers. The soles are double layers, of Enterprise Yarn, crocheted firm and heavy they may be sized with lacquer (like the back of a rug) or stiffened with a layer of fiber board between the 2 pieces of the sole cut the board to fit after crocheting. No. 1 Steel Crochet Hook used for all shoes.

SOLES: These slippers all are to be crocheted on the same sole. Adult or children's soles are alike except for changes where fewer sts are required for the smaller sizes,use figures for child's sizes at points where indicated in instructions. Measure length of footplus "make a chain 2" shorter (childs; 2" shorter) than measure-ments. 2 sc in second st from hook, sc in each st to center ch, hdc in 4 sts (childs; 2 sts) dc to fourth st (childs; third st) from end, hdc in 2 sts (childs; in next st) 5 sc in end st. On other side of chain, hdc in 2 sts (childs; in next st) dc in each st opposite dc on other side, hdc in 4 sts, (childs; 2 sts) sc to end. In both loops, 3 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next, and continue with 5 rows (childs; 4 rows) of sc around. Increase 3 sc around toe in each row, with 2 sc between inc. Inc 3 sc at heel in each row, with sc between increases. ROW 7: (Childs; Row 6) 1 sl st in both loops of each sc. Fasten off. Make a second piece, to be exactly same size and sew together back-to-back thru 1 loop of each sc on edge. "MILITARY" BOOTS MATERIALS: 2 balls White and 1 ball Med. Blue (or other colors). Make under-sole Blue and first 4 rows upper-sole White, last 2 Blue. TOP: In Blue, ch 5, 6 dc in starting st. ROW 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in last dc, sc in 2 dc, 3 sc in next dc, sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in end ch. ROW 3: Join White thru loop (1 ch), turn and over Blue, sc in 5 sc, pull up blue taut thru 2 loops of last sc, and over White, 3 dc in next sc, holding last loop of each dc on hook, yarn over and thru 4 loops (a puff st), sc in next sc, drawn down tightly so puff st puffs out on back, (outside of Boot) joining White thru the 2 loops of this Blue sc, and over Blue, sc in 4 sc, cut Blue 2" long. ROW 4: In White, ch 1 , turn, 2 sc in last sc, sc across, with 2 sc in end sc. ROW 5: Ch 1, turn and over Blue, letting end extend 2" out from edge, sc in 4 sc, (a puff st and 1 Blue sc, 2 White sc) twice, sc in end sc. Cut Blue 2" long. Join and cut Blue in each puff row in same way. ROW 6: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in last sc, then 4 sc, 2 hdc, and 5 sc, with 2 sc in end st. ROW 7: Ch 1, turn, and over Blue, sc in 3 sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc, 6 White sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc, 2 White sc. ROW 8: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in last sc, then 3 sc, 6 hdc and 4 sc, with 2 sc in end sc. ROW 9: Ch 1, turn and over Blue, sc in 2 sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc, (4 White sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc) twice, 1 White sc. ROW 10: Ch 1, turn, 3 sc, (4 hdc, 2 sc) twice, 2 sc. ROW 11: Ch 1, turn and over Blue, 6 sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc, 2 White sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc, 5 White sc. ROW 12: Ch 1, turn, 7 sc, 2 hdc and 8 sc. ROW 13: Ch 1, turn over Blue, 4 sc, a puff st and 1 Blue sc, (2 sc, 3 sc in next st, 3 sc) in White, a puff st and 1 sc in Blue, 3 White sc. ROW 14: Ch 1, turn, 5 sc, 8 hdc, 6 sc. ROW 15: Ch 1, turn and over Blue, 2 sc, a puff st and 1 sc in Blue, cut Blue 6" long and fasten off. In White, 6 sc, ch 18, turn, 17 sc

on ch, 10 sc across last short puff row. * (Ch 1, turn, sc across with 2 sc in end sc. Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc) 5 times. Make 2 rows even, without increase. (Omit these 2 rows for small size, repeat them once or twice for large size). (Ch 1, turn, sc across to second from end. Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc) 4 times. Fasten off. * In White, 17 sc on other side of ch starting cuff, sc in same sc on toe section with first half of cuff, sc in next 6 sc on toe section, a puff st and 1 sc in Blue, 1 White sc. Fasten off Blue. Repeat from * to *. Sew cuff together up back. In Blue, 1 sc in each row around lower edge, working over Blue ends left from puff st rows. Sew to sole thru 1 loop of each st. Work White sc around top of cuff. TRIM: In Blue, *ch 9, sl st in third st from hook for a picot, (ch 4, Picot) 4 times, sl st in l-ch between last 2-picots, (ch 3, picot, sl st between next 2 picots) 3 times, ch 3, picot, sl st in l-ch past next picot. Repeat from * for length around top edge. Join to first st. In each 5-ch space, make 3 sc, ch 3, sl st in last sc, and 3 sc. Sew around top of cuff.
