6th Grade Computer Applications- Keyboarding Skills Outline The 6th Grade Computer Applications course will be for

a grade. The first quarter will focus on strengthening the students keyboarding skills. The students will earn points for completed activities and assignments as well as the typing tests. We will do basic practice of the key location and work towards mastery and achieving a word per minute goal of 25 wpm. We will utilize many typing practice programs and games, most of which can be found on Mrs. Gries teacherweb site under Keyboarding Websites. As this class only meets twice per week, the students should be encouraged to visit these practice sites often while at home to continue to strengthen the typing skills. In order to put our skills to practical use, we will also complete many documents that focus on typing skills such as writing prompts, business letters, creative writing stories, etc. Practice, Practice, Practice is the key to success. After successful introduction and practice with the keys on the keyboard, the second quarter will be a focus on computer application projects such as formatting Microsoft word documents and brochure design in Microsoft publisher. As our class only meets twice a week, the student may need to bring home their project on a thumb drive so that it can be completed at home for submission the next class meeting. A rubric of requirements, points possible, and due dates will be sent home at the start of each project. A computer skills outline for Quarter 2 will be sent home at the start of the second quarter. This computer applications course is new in its development. Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or course suggestions. I am always available through my email, vgries@evdio.org or phone voicemail 476-4477 ext. 111. I look forward to having an exciting semester with the 6th grade students in this computer applications course. Mrs. Vallee Gries
