QUILT CRAFTED BY PIECEFUL VALLEY QUILTERS FOR PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS FUNDRAISER During this past year the Pieceful Valley Quilters of Cambridge chose for their project a patriotic star designed quilt, which they will donate to the Patriot Guard Riders of New York. The Patriot Guard is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates on donations. The Guards main mission is to accompany fallen heroes and their families at funeral services so that there would be no disruption from possible protestors. The Patriot Guard, also, assists returning veterans with monetary needs and the adjustment back into civilian life when difficult issues surface. The quilt will be raffled by the Guard as a fundraiser. The quilt will be on display Wednesday, August 21st (Senior Day) at the Washington County Fair in the County Bounty Building. ART ON THE BATTENKILL- On Saturday, August 17 from 3pm to 7pm, the Georgi Museum and the Battenkill Conservancy( will team up to to offer the community a special afternoon highlighting the art and( environment of the Battenkill. The event offers the public the opportunity to view the recently opened Sushan Notables exhibit in the Battenkill room and to also take advantage of the museums bucolic grounds located on a prime stretch of the Battenkill. The Battenkill Conservancy will be on hand with environmental information on the river including rain gardens and native plantings but will also use the event to highlight the importance of the Battenkill as a cultural and artistic resource. ( Artists who have featured the Battenkill in their work will be showing some of their key pieces and be on hand to discuss why the protection of The Battenkill and public treasures like The Georgi Museum are important to their work. The event is free, no pre-registration is required and anyone interested in learning more about the river and cooling off in its cool, clean waters is encouraged to attend. Over 100 young, talented youth ages 13 to 21 will be performing. The orchestra, is playing a medley from the Pirates of the Caribbean and the chorus and orchestra will perform a medley from Les Miserables. American-based songs sung by the chorus, also. The Concert is free and all are welcome. The students will also perform in Salem at the High School at 6 PM on Friday, August 16th.
