No princpio era aquele que a Palavra. Ele estava com Deus, e era Deus.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Todas as coisas foram feitas por intermdio dele; sem ele, nada do que existe teria sido feito.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Nele estava a vida, e esta era a luz dos homens.

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

A luz brilha nas trevas, e as trevas no a derrotaram.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Surgiu um homem enviado por Deus, chamado Joo. Ele veio como testemunha, para testificar acerca da luz, a fim de que por meio dele todos os homens cressem. Ele prprio no era a luz, mas veio como testemunha da luz. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

Estava chegando ao mundo a verdadeira luz, que ilumina todos os homens.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

Ele estava no mundo. O mundo foi feito por meio dele, mas o mundo no o conheceu.

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

Ele veio para o mundo que era seu, mas o seu prprio povo no o recebeu.

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

Contudo, aos que o receberam, aos que creram em seu nome, deu-lhes o direito de se tornarem filhos de Deus, os quais no nasceram por descendncia natural, nem pela vontade de algum homem, mas nasceram de Deus.

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision, but born of God.

A Palavra se fez homem e viveu entre ns. Vimos a sua glria, glria como do Unignito vindo do Pai, cheio de graa e de verdade.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
