RC SUBMARINE

INTRODUCTION: Submarine is a watercraft which is capable of underwater independent motion. In real life it is mainly used for military purposes and also for civil purposes like tourism, exploration, oil and gas platform inspections and pipeline surveys. Our aim is to make a wireless remote controlled model of submarine whose motion we can controlled from outside of the water with the help of a transmitter and receiver. PRINCIPLE : A submarine basically works on Archimedes' principle or Buoyancy force law which stated in different forms:1) Any floating object displaces its own weight of fluid. 2) Any object, wholly or partially immersed in a fluid, is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object.(For more general objects, floating and sunken, and in gases as well as liquids,this principle may be stated in terms of forces). 3) The weight of the displaced fluid is directly proportional to the volume of the displaced fluid (if the surrounding fluid is of uniform density). In simple terms, the principle states that the buoyancy force on an object is going to be equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. TYPES OF SUBMARINE 1. Submarine which use Static Diving method to go into the water. In this method a ballast tank is used (i.e they are able to vary their weight by intake and expel of water) to dive and come out of water. They are able to hover at a place. 2. Submarine which use Dynamic Diving method to go into the water.This type of submarine uses thrust and

elevators to go in and out of water. These are not able to hover at a place. We made a RC SUBMARINE which works on static diving method because this method provides better control. PROJECT DETAILS:1. SHELL:- The shell can be constructed of a variety of materials, including PVC and ABS(but we used pvc pipe due to their easy availability). Aside from the bonding agents recommended by manufacturers you can also use silicone and acrylic adhesive which will bond different types of plastics together including acrylics, it even bonds plastics to glass.

HULL:- hull is the main body of the submarine which we made from PVC pipe. It contains the ballast tank, batteries, receiver etc.

3. BALLAST TANK: -The ballast tank is used to make submarine to go in or to come out. Our ballast tank is made up of a syringe which is connected to a motor with the help of a screw. Both syringe and motor are fixed and only screw is capable to move. So when motor moves in anticlockwise direction piston connected to screw moves outward and water go inside and when motor moves in reverse direction piston moves forward and water is expelled. We made a circuit to change the direction of rotation of motor.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION:1. Wireless submarines could be deployed on the coasts to keep an eye on enemies. 2. They can be used to find blockages in drains. 3. Can be used to keep a tab on the life of organisms in rivers & seas. 4. Can be used to do underwater wildlife photography. PROBLEMS FACED:1. Problem of end cap:-diameter of our pvc pipe is 5inches and maximum diameter of end cap that are available in market is 4inches.We resolves this problem by wrapping cycle tube around those caps and fixing those tube tightly. 2. Main problem that we faced is to make our whole system as a watertight .We resolves this problem by using silicone selent on all the

holes and joint. 3. Problem to change the direction of that motor which is connected to ballast tank. This was not possible to control by wireless remote. For that we made a circuit and used a three way switch. 4. We had to accurately measure the volume of our submarine and make its weight accordingly. 5. Using watercooled motor and ESC, we had no prior experience of using them. 6. Last problem is to arrange all our component (motors, esc, ballast tank,battries,servos etc.) permanently into shell . FUTURE ASPECT:1. To taste successful testing of our first model. 2. To make a new model that is fully wireless. 3. Use better material like fibreglass and work on aerodynamics. 4. To fit a SONAR in our submarine.
