I’ve
tried
to
cut

crap.

MEDSOC’S
ROLE:
What
is
MedSoc
here
to
do?
To
represent
us?
To
help
us
party?

To
educate
us?
I
believe
that
it
has
a
key
role
in
all
three.
I’d
like
to
redress
the
balance

in
terms
of
what
MedSoc
offers:



This
does
NOT
mean
having
fewer
“BIG
ENTZ”
events
as
these
were
terrific

and
enjoyed
by
all.
Big
respec’.
With
a
greater
focus
on
gaining
sponsorship,

which
is
essential
if
MedSoc
is
to
grow,
our
events
will
be
bigger
and
better.



Instead,
I
would
like
to
push
more
GUEST
SPEAKER
TALKS.
No,
not
another

merry
dose
of
JFM,
but
instead,
exciting
speakers
from
beyond
the
Oxford

bubble.
The
subjects
of
the
talks
would
thus
be
more
varied.
With
some

careful
marketing
of
the
Oxford
brand,
we
could
get
some
cracking
speakers.



Medics
are
FIT.
We’re
quite
a
sporty
bunch
at
heart,
but
sometimes
cannot

commit
to
College/University
sport,
making
us
feel
left
out
and
flabby.
This
is

why
there
are
prominent
MEDIC
SPORTS
TEAMS
at
other
medical
schools.

We
can
definitely
do
better.
I
will
promote
medic
sport
from
day
one.



Lectures.
Labs.
Tutes.
Essays.
These
all
have
to
happen,
which
can
be
unfortunate.
However,
MedSoc
is

here
to
articulate
any
qualms
that
any
student
may
have
to
the
Joint
Consultative
Committee.
The

current
course
feedback
system
needs
reforming
(many
students
don’t
complete
it):
one
official

questionnaire
per
subject,
perhaps
at
the
end
of
each
voluntary
assessment
would
be
more
effective.
This

is
all
about
representing
YOU.

ACCESSIBILITY:
MedSoc
should
be
at
the
centre
of
our
medical
lives.
Its
roles
are

diverse
and
its
responsibilities
potentially
massive.
Committee
members
should
be

well
known
and
easily
accessible.



First
of
all,
each
member
of
my
Committee
would
formally
INTRODUCE
THEMSELVES
to
each
year
group

at
the
start
of
MT09,
so
that
everyone
knows
who
they
are.
Simple,
but
so
important.



The
1st
year
rep
was
not
even
elected
this
year.
This
was
a
serious
failing
as
the
1st
(and
3rd)
year
reps

have
to
be
proactive,
finding
out
what
students
think
about
their
medical
school.
REPRESENTATION
IS

PARAMOUNT.
Furthermore,
the
1st
and
3rd
year
reps
were
not
closely
involved
in
the
running
of
MedSoc

this
year,
narrowing
the
spectrum
of
input
and
representation.
This
will
not
happen
next
year.



MEMBERSHIP
CARDS
will
be
introduced.
They
make
a
huge
difference
when
running
events
and
can
be

used
to
facilitate
cheap
club
nights,
treasurer’s
treats,
etc.
Small
things
can
make
all
the
difference.


 


EXPERIENCE:

NEWCASTLE
MEDICAL
SOCIETY:
I
transformed
RGS
MedSoc,
adding
to
the

weekly
guest
speaker
talks
with
clinical
skills
sessions
with
local
nurse
practitioners,
providing
mock

interviews
with
junior
doctors,
setting
up
termly
blood
donations
at
the
School,
and
bumping
up
the

MedSoc
social
scene.
It’s
all
about
having
a
vision.

VOLUNTARY
SERVICE
COMMITTEE:
I
have
experience
in
organising
events

and
in
sponsorship,
having
set
up
a
successful
fashion
show
and
a
ragin’
rock
concert.

HINDU
SOC:
I
have
sponsorship
contacts,

experience
with
running
a
uni‐level
society
with
uni‐wide
events.
I’m
