Note: As I used wool which blocked out nicely I did not need the 4 knit sts on the purl side rows. However if you are using acrylics or do not want the edges to curl at all, these knit stitches will help. Alternatively work around the edge picking up and knitting every loop (1 stitch every 2 rows) and immediately bind off with Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off. http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php Abbreviations: m1: pick up the loop below the stitch just worked and knit into it ssk: slip 2 stitches separately as if to knit then knit them together through the back loop. Yrn: is the yo of the purl side where you wrap the yarn completely around the needle before the next st. This is a video showing yo and yrn: http://www.knittinghelp.com/apps/flash/video_player/play/109/1 Increase Pattern Row 1: k to last 2 stitches, m1, k2 Row 2: k2, p to last 2 sts, k2 Row 3: k Row 4: k2, p to last 2 sts, k2 Row 5: k to last 2 stitches, m1, k2 Row 6: k2, p to last 2 sts, k2 Row 7: k Row 8: k2, (p2 tog, yrn) to last 3 sts, p1, k2 Note: This row will always have an odd number of sts.
