: PTI MNA calls for Mumtaz Qadri's release

Mujahid Ali Khan made the demand during a debate on the budget in the National Assembly.

ISLAMABAD: A Pakist an Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA called for t he release of Malik Mumt az Qadri, t he man who gunned down Punjab Gov ernor Salmaan Taseer in 2011. PTI MNA from Mardan, Mujahid Ali Khan m ade the dem and during a debate on the budget in the National Assem bly . Khan had won the NA-1 1 seat in the May 1 1 elections. Another PTI MNA Arif Alv i clarified that Khan had m ade this dem and in his personal capacity , and this had nothing to do with the party . Earlier in 2 01 1 , PTI chairm an Im ran Khan had condem ned Qadris reception as a hero on the prem ises of the Anti Terrorism Court, Rawalpindi. Extrem ism and radicalism hav e penetrated our society deeply , he had said, adding that it is especially harm ful for the y outh. Qadri nev er argued that he had not killed Taseer shortly after he shot him dead, Qadri said his m otiv e was Taseers apparent opposition to the country s blasphem y law. But if the m urder wasnt shocking enough, it was the stringent defence put up by religious parties, whose activ ists showered rose petals on Qadri at his court hearing, brought him flowers on Valentines Day and set up Facebook pages glorify ing him .
