ITEC20221: 3D Design For Games

I.

Assessment Requirements

For this coursework exercise you are required to submit two elements and present your work during a 5-10 minute demo slot. Element 1 a set of 3D models, complete with all textures. Element 2 a portfolio sheet (or sheets) displaying the model, its textures and selected source images used to form the textures. Demo display your model(s) in the game engine, and if necessary 3DS Max. Your models and textures must be submitted electronically using the dropbox on NOW. Before uploading you work please create a logical directory structure which separates original source materials from the finished models and textures You are expected to present your work and portfolio sheets at an appointed time during the two weeks following the hand in

II. Assessment Scenario/Problem

This assignment is to create and demonstrate a set of 3D models suitable for use in a Sherlock Holmes computer game and to visually communicate the nature of the model using printed portfolio sheets. The aim of this exercise is to provide you with timely and detailed feedback on your modelling techniques prior to the development of your game level in assignment 2 1- 3D models (80%) You are required to create a game model of a Victoriana object This must be an object which could conceivably be found within the home of a Victorian gentleman, furniture, ornaments, or curios are all fine, The model should be produced at three levels of detail according to the specification below. LOD 2 - a model with less than 100 triangles LOD 1 - a model with less than 350 triangles LOD 0 - a model with all necessary and appropriate detail, remembering that it must remain suitable for use in a game The model should be fully textured using one single Targa image which adheres to the dimensional rules used by game engines. Additional images are permitted for advanced texturing e.g. Normal, Bump and Reflection maps etc. Though it is only essential to submit one object you are encouraged to hand in up to three different objects verbal feedback will be given on all and marks given for only the best model. If you plan on doing this you must also remember that you will need portfolio sheets for each object 2- Portfolio (20%) You are required to design and produce a portfolio which visually communicates the nature of your models, highlights areas of complexity and presents your work in the best possible light. The portfolio must be printed out and you are encouraged to pay close attention to the standard of presentation. 3D Modelling

ITEC20221: 3D Design For Games It is essential that your portfolio sheet(s):Includes images/ reference material of the actual object your model is based on. Enables detailed understanding of the geometry used to form the shape. Demonstrates the textures and image manipulation techniques used to produce them. Are appropriately annotated where necessary.
