KSBV-T07-A Technical Manual KSB ANSICHEM PUMP DESCRIPTION The ANSICHEM pump is horizontal overhung, single flow, single stage design with fully open impeller that meets the requirements of ANSI B73.1 1. Pump Casing Single volute casing, one piece casting with foot support under casing for maximum resistance to misalignment and distortion from pipe loads. Corrosion allowance of 1/8 (approx. 3.2 mm). Top centerline discharge, self venting. The casing to cover gasket is confined on the atmospheric side to prevent blowout. Suction and discharge nozzles are flanged with flanges of 150 lb. and 300 lb. dimensions conforming ANSI B16.1 / B16.5. 2. Impeller The impeller is threaded to the shaft with rotation to tighten. Threads are protected by an Oring so they will not be wetted by the pumped liquid. The pump have means for external adjustment of the impeller axial clearance for maintaining performance. The impeller have appropriates passage for good solids and slurry handling, stringy material, corrosive and abrasive liquids. It is designed for low NPSH and high efficiency. The axial thrust is minimized with back pump-out vanes. Orifice for gauge connections is optional. 3. Stuffing Box Cover Standard version designed with built-in cooling or heating chamber for services under high temperature or for heating liquids of high viscosity that have a tendency to crystallize. Two basic types of stuffing boxes can be offered, one called a seal chamber and a second called a stuffing box. The seal chamber is design to accommodate mechanical seals only and can be cylindrical or self-venting tapered (see fig. 2.a and 2.b) for various types of seals. The stuffing box is intended for packing but is designed to accommodate mechanical seals as an alternative. (see fig. 3) PACKING The stuffing box can contain 5 rings of packing and a lantern ring or one throat bushing, a lantern ring and three ring of packing. (See fig. 4.a and 4.b). The stuffing box cover is supplied with orifices opened on the lantern ring for: - Lubricating and cooling the packing. - Sealing the packing against penetration of solid particles and abrasives. - Avoiding the leakage of liquids that are gasifyed when put in contact with the atmosphere. - Sealing the stuffing box to avoid air inlet.
the proper design and material for an application is chosen, the environmental controls will be the next priority factor determining the proper operation and service life of the seal. Often special piping system and auxiliary equipment are required to ensure that seal cavity temperatures are maintained within required limits. Various mechanical seal piping plans can be supplied, from plan number 7311 up to 7362 according to ANSI B73.1. The seal chamber is completely machined for using inside or outside, tandem double or single, balanced or unbalanced seals. See figures 5.a to 5.e. Fig.4.a- Soft packing with lantern ring. bushing. Used for injection or circulation of liquid for cooling and to clear deposits MECHANICAL SEALS The mechanical seals were developed to overcome the disadvantages of compression packing. Leakage can be reduced to a minimum level. They are recommended when the liquid handled is toxic, inflammable, explosive or costly. When selected and installed correctly maintenance costs are minimized. Sealing is achieved by two very flat, lapped faces which create a difficult leakage path perpendicular to the shaft. Rubbing contact between these two flat mating surfaces minimizes leakage. As in all seals, one face is held stationary in a housing, and the other face is fixed to, and rotates with the shaft. One of the faces is usuallya non galling material. The other is usually a relatively hard material. The faces in a typical mechanical seal are lubricated with a boundary level of liquid or gas between the faces. Control of a mechanical seals environment is as important for proper operation and long service life as choice of seal design and material. The seal environment comprises temperature, abrasive conditions, the viscosity or lubricity of the fluid between the seal faces. When a mechanical seal of

Contains large oil reservoir with cooling fins and cooling chamber.
KSBV-T07-A Technical Manual KSB ANSICHEM 5. Shaft Heavy duty shaft with maximum diameter in critical areas and minimum shaft overhang. Maximum shaft deflection less minimum shaft overhang. Much care is taken on shafts with sleeves to insure complete shaft sealing. 6. Shaft Sleeve Renewable shaft sleeve is positively driven, hooktype, with one end free to expand with emperature variations. ORing prevents leakage under sleeve. Sleeve permits application of inside balanced mechanical seals where required. Sleeve threaded on shaft to prevent anti-rotation. 7. Bearings Bearings were selected for average 10 year life minimum 17.500 hrs. B-10 life and minimum play. Inboard bearing is pressed on shaft for carrying radial loads and is free to float axially. Outboard bearing is shouldered and locked on shaft with lockout and washer, and locked in bearing housing to carry radial and any unbalanced axial thrust load. They are lubricated with oil. 8. Selection Criteria Teh performance curves indicated on section 14 should be used for pump selection. These curves are referred to ambient temperature water with a 3 3 specific gravity of 62.4 lb/ft (1000 kg/m ) 9. Viscosity The correction for viscous liquids be done according to the criteria of the Hidraulic Institute . If the efficiency corretion is lower than 0.5 a centrifugal pump is not be selected. 10. Efficiency Efficiencies show on the performance curves are referred to impeller clearance of 0.012 in (0.3 mm) for water at ambient temperature. For pumping emperatures over 200F (93C) the cold setting must be increased per table 2. 11. NPSH The requered valvues of NPSH are indicated in the performance curves, however, it is necessary to add 20 inches (0.5m) as a safety factor. NPSH test should be performed with a flow not less than Q= 0.35 Q optimum. 12. Peripheral Speed Once the pump rotational speed is determined, the maximum discharge pressure should be checked and it has to be verified whether the peripheral speed. Impellers in CF8M, WCB and CZ-100 have a maximum speed of 262 ft/sec (80 m/s). 13. Drive Direct or indirect through a flexible coupling, by electric motor, turbine or diesel engine, etc. 14. Coupling and Baseplate Flexible spacer designs to allow back pull-out and maintain long bearings life. The pumps supplied with combined service will be equipped with a coupling guard according with ANSI/ASME B15.1. Baseplates are freestranding and structurally rigid as to limit the movement of the driver shaft relative to the pump shaft to 0.002 in (0.05mm) parallet offset when the driver torque of nameplate horsepower is applied.
