Xavier School International Baccalaureate Program

Diploma Program Orientation . August 6, 2013

Students: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the opportunities that You allow us to enjoy. On our hands You have placed choices for our future, and in us You have given the power to be better learners that we may achieve more and be more. We thank You for our parents who are ever with us in our endeavors. Give them the strength of mind and body, the patience and loving spirit as they guide us through life. Lord, our parents love for us is immense and unwavering. Allow us to give them back even a humble portion of this love, by making of ourselves persons they will be proud of.

Opening Prayer

Parents: Almighty and loving Father, grant us the wisdom to know how best to assist our children. Let us be able to inspire them to be ever focused and determined in their work; to encourage them when work becomes demanding; and to laud them in their littlest of accomplishments. Let us know, O Lord, when to guide our children by the hand and when to let go; when to insist our way and when to trust in their own abilities and discernment; when to give our all, and when it is best to hold back. Let us ourselves be lifelong learners as we share in the work of Your Son, the Divine Teacher.

Opening Prayer

Opening Prayer And may our work, and the work of our children, be a worthy offering to You, who are the source of all good things. Amen.

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

A two-year, pre-university curriculum, that features holistic learning, depth of learning, and student choice and initiative Students choose one course from 2-3 choices in each of six subject areas. They remain in those subjects for two years. The subjects are externally assessed, meaning students take an exam administered by the IBO at the end of the two years. The results of these exams can be sent to universities for college credit.

Research shows that:

IB students outperform their peers on states assessments. IB Diploma students have higher acceptance rates to colleges. IB Diploma students perform better in post-secondary education than their peers. IB standards are aligned with best practices in education and support effective teaching practices. IB has a positive impact on the culture of a school.
