It was April 10,1912. The British luxury liner Titanic was sailing from Southampton to New York. It was the first journey and, everybody knew that the liner was unsinkable because of its 16 watertight compartments. There were more than 2,220 passengers. Many rich people including the American millionaire Benjamin Guggenheim were on board. Some poor immigrants from Ireland were also travelling to America in search of a better life.

Two days later, just before midnight, the ship was travelling too fast when suddenly, it struck an iceberg and punctured five of the compartments. The ship sank in less than three hours. Unluckily, 1513 people died because there werent enough lifeboats for everybody. Today, many people remember sad stories about that tragic accident, one of them is how Captain Smith stayed on the ship and the band kept on playing while it was sinking or how a husband took a decision to let her wife to go and she had to see his face and his hand saying goodbye. 1) What does its , in the second line refers to?
