Compose, record, and edit video to create a Concept in 60, using the technical skill and rhetorical strategies learned in class. 2 Goals Compose a 60 second video, using visual rhetorics and genre conventions to introduce a concept. 3 Requirements 1. Your video must be precisely 60 seconds, not one second over or under. 2. Your video must introduce a particular concept, taking a critical, reflective, and/or interpretive approach to its subject matter. 3. Your video must be stripped of all actual/matching audio. You may layer audio in your project as long as you avoid all video/audio matching. 4. Your video must include at least 30 seconds of self-shot footage. 5. You must secure permissions for all materials used in your project. You will include all of these permissions in the credits section of the trailer at the end. 6. You will post a 250-500 word description of your Concept in 60 idea to your blog on 2.27. 7. You will submit your Concept in 60 for peer review Youtube on 3.6 and post the link to the Carmen discussion board. 8. On 3.11 you will submit both the Concept in 60 draft and the revision with the accompanying peer review worksheet. You will also submit a 1-2 page cover letter. All videos will be uploaded to Youtube. You will then provide a link to the video and the written portions of the assignment on the Carmen Dropbox. 4 Grading Criteria ____Technical Skill (20 points) The video looks neither sloppy nor overproduced The cuts are smooth The video isnt shaky. Two types of special effects are used. The sound is mixed well. Skills taught in the iMovie workshop as well as skills learned on students own are well-demonstrated. ____Genre Standards (20 points)

Images follow the genre standards of video visuals: composition, font, color choice, layout, etc. The trailer does something unexpected. Nothing is distracting music, voice mistakes, extraneous video or other media, etc. The story catches the viewers attention. The video is well-paced. The video elicits a powerful emotion. The video has a good control of images and causes the viewer to be caught up in a world. ____ Concept (20 points) The concept is clear but not repetitive. Concept refers to something specific. Concept is clear to an audience that doesnt have a cover letter to read. Argument considers how it will appear to multiple audiences. ____Visual Rhetoric Savvy (15 points) Ethos, pathos, and logos are readily perceivable and effective. The video employs another visual rhetorical move of your choice. The video zooms and uses angles effectively. Beyond genre standards, the layout is well-balanced, colored, and arranged.
