Breath carbon monoxide monitors for the detection of CO poisoning

Carbon monoxide poisoning is a major cause of ill health

and even fatality. Instant and accurate monitoring of
exhaled breath CO with the ToxCO or ToxCOmini allows
the large range of symptoms such as disiness, vomitting
and nausea to be screened non-invasively for CO
poisoning in a variety of settings.

The ToxCO breath monitor allows medical professionals to rapidly detect the CO poisoning levels of both
conscious and unconscious patients in a variety of medical situations.
This simple and easy to use monitor is robust enough to be used at the scene and is easy to transport in
a simple carry case which can be stowed away with ease inside an ambulance. A colour touch-screen
ensures ease of operation, as well as allowing the user to view previous results in a table.
With the ToxCO, symptoms expressed by a patient can be dealt with immediately and cost-effectively
with a simple breath test, allowing treatment to commence immediately. It will also help facilitate an
accurate handover and diagnosis to the receiving hospital.

Features Benefits
 Mouthpiece and facemask breath test options  Non-invasive sampling with instant results

 Mouthpiece breath test peak reading displayed  Provides immediate assessment on site
in %COHb and COppm. Peak and real-time enabling treatment to commence immediately
%COHb and COppm results for facemask use
 Can speed up the diagnostic process and
 Additional ambient air monitoring option, with avoid incorrect diagnoses
peak and real-time results in ppm
 Can be used in epidemiological research
 Results are automatically saved and can be studies

 Colour touch-screen for ease of use

 Built-in maintenance reminders

 30 minute power-save period to allow for

continuous monitoring

Calibration and Servicing

The ToxCO monitor requires calibrating at least every six
months. The ToxCO will give a reminder when calibration
is due during start-up of the monitor. Calibration is easy
to achieve by non-technical staff and Bedfont’s own
calibration kit.
The ToxCO must be calibrated with Bedfont 50ppm
CO in air. This is available direct from Bedfont in a 5
litre canister, 20 litre canister and 110 litre canister for
approximately 3, 10 and 200 calibrations respectively. A
range of service packages are also available.

To complement the ToxCO, Bedfont have also released

the ToxCOmini breath CO tester which can be used for
screening purposes by general practitioners, pharmacies,
accident and emergency departments and schools.
The ToxCOmini allows for low-cost, quick, non-invasive
testing of patients with chronic CO poisoning symptoms,
including persistent headaches, nausea, abdominal pain,
sore throat and dry cough.
The ToxCOmini is used with Bedfont’s single-use Flatpak
mouthpieces, and no maintenance is required.
With the introduction of these specialist monitors for
carbon monoxide poisoning it is hoped that more lives will
be saved with an accurate and non-invasive diagnosis.

Consumables
Bedfont Scientific supply a range of
consumables to complement your ToxCO
and ToxCOmini. It is recommended that
you use Bedfont consumables for optimum
performance from your monitor.

Breath Sampling Systems

Both the ToxCO and ToxCOmini are supplied with mouthpieces and
a D-piece connector for conscious and willing patients. The Flatpak
mouthpieces take up less than a tenth of the space of traditional
cardboard mouthpieces. Packed in batches of 25 to reduce
handling, they are available in boxes of 50 or 250. The D-piece
incorporates a one-way valve and an infection control filter, proven
to remove and trap >99.9% of airborne bacteria.1

The ToxCO is also supplied with individually sealed facemasks for

paediatric or unconscious patients in infant, child and adult sizes,
along with a Y-piece connector.

Instrument Cleansing Wipes

Bedfont provide instrument cleansing wipes for the instrument and external D-piece surfaces. Cleaning
products containing alcohol should never be used, as they could affect the accuracy of the instrument. It is
recommended that wipes are used for one surface only.
