Important facts about Iblis (A fallen Angel) and the Jinn based upon some of the previous Jewish

sources and Quran.

And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down - that ancient serpent called the devil, or Saw-tawn, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Revelation 12:7-9 .

Saw-tawn was a fallen one. He was created good, but part of his goodness was the capacity to choose. He chose to disobey Yahweh, and in doing this, he became evil. That is, he "fell" from grace.
INTERESTING there is something similar to this in "Vita Adae et Evae", an apocryphal text which most scholars agree was written somewhere near the end of the 10th century AD. XIII: The devil replied, 'Adam, what dost thou tell me? It is for thy sake that I have been hurled from that place. When thou wast formed, I was hurled out of the presence of Elohim and banished from the company of the ANGELS. When Elohim blew into thee the breath of life and thy face and likeness was made in the image of Elohim, Michael also brought thee and made (us) worship thee in the sight of Elohim; and Elohim Yahweh spake: Here is Adam. I have made thee in our image and likeness.' XIV: And Michael went out and called all the ANGELS saying: 'Worship the image of Elohim as Yahweh Elohim hath commanded.' And Michael himself worshipped first; then he called me and said: 'Worship the image of Elohim Yahweh.' And I answered, 'I have no (need) to worship Adam.' And since Michael kept urging me to worship, I said to him, 'Why dost thou urge me? I will not worship an INFERIOR and younger being. I am his senior in the Creation, before he was made was I already made. It is his duty to worship me.' XV: When the ANGELS who were under me heard this, they refused to worship him. And Michael saith, 'Worship the image of Elohim, but if thou wilt not worship him, Yahweh Elohim will be wroth with thee.' And I said, 'If He be wroth with me, I will set

my seat above the stars of heaven and will be like the Highest.' Anon. Vita Adae et Evae, 1315.

In Legends of the Jews in Ginzberg I:63 regarding extra canonical traditions of the Hebrew Scriptures, that preceded the Prophet Muhammad by several centuries, it is reported that Saw-tawn - the greatest of the angels with twelve wings instead of the usual six - refused to bow down to Adam when Elohim instructed him to do so because of his envy. ADAM--MAN AND THE WORLD With ten Sayings Yahweh created the world, although a single Saying would have sufficed. Yahweh desired to make known how severe is the punishment to be meted out to the wicked, who destroy a world created with as many as ten Sayings, and how goodly the reward destined for the righteous, who preserve a world created with as many as ten Sayings. The world was made for man, though he was the last-comer among its creatures. This was design. He was to find all things ready for him. Yahweh was the host who prepared dainty dishes, set the table, and then led His guest to his seat. At the same time man's late appearance on earth is to convey an admonition to humility. Let him beware of being proud, lest he invite the retort that the gnat is older than he. The superiority of man to the other creatures is apparent in the very manner of his creation, altogether different from theirs. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS CREATED BY THE HAND OF YAHWEH. The rest sprang from THE WORD OF YAHWEH.

The Quran confirms:

[Allah] said, "O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating to that which khalaqtu (I CREATED) biyadayya (WITH MY HANDS)? Were you arrogant [then], or were you
3|Page

[already] among the haughty?" Sura 38/75 THE SOUL OF MAN The care which Yahweh exercised in fashioning every detail of the body of man is as naught in comparison with His solicitude for the human soul. The soul of man was created on the first day, for it is the spirit of Yahweh moving upon the face of the waters. Thus, instead of being the last, man is really the first work of creation. This spirit, or, to call it by its usual name, THE SOUL OF MAN, possesses five different powers. BY MEANS OF ONE OF THEM SHE ESCAPES FROM THE BODY EVERY NIGHT, RISES UP TO HEAVEN, AND FETCHES NEW LIFE THENCE FOR MAN.

The Quran confirms how the soul goes to Allah each night:
"It is He who yatawaffkum (takes your souls) back by night, knowing what you have done by day, then yabathukum (He raises you up) again in the daytime until your fixed term is fulfilled. It is to Him that you will return in the end, and He will tell you what you have done. He is the Supreme Master over His subjects. He sends out recorders to watch over you until, when mawtu (the death) tawaffathu (overtakes him), those sent by Us take his soul- they never fail in their duty." 6/61 ==> "It is He who yatawaffkum (takes your souls) back by night ==> when mawtu (the death) tawaffathu (overtakes him), WITH THE SOUL OF ADAM THE SOULS OF ALL THE GENERATIONS OF MEN WERE CREATED. They are stored up in a promptuary, in the seventh of the heavens, whence they are drawn as they are needed for human body after human body.

The Quran confirms:

"When your Lord brought forth offspring from the loins of the Children of Adam and made them bear witness about themselves, He said, Am I not your Lord? They replied, We bear witness that You are. This He did, lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, We had no knowledge of that. or lest you say, "Verily, it was but our forefathers who, in times gone by, began to ascribe divinity to other beings beside God; and we were but their late offspring: wilt Thou, then, destroy us for the doings of those inventors of falsehoods? Thus do We explain the signs in detail; and perchance they may turn (unto Us)." Sura 7/172-175

Legends of the Jews:

The third creation of the second day was the angel hosts, both the ministering ANGELS and the ANGELS of praise. The reason they had not been called into being on the first day was, lest men believe that the ANGELS assisted Yahweh in the creation of the heavens and the earth.[61] The ANGELS that are fashioned from FIRE have forms of FIRE, [62] but only so long as they remain in heaven. When they descend to earth, to do the bidding of Yahweh here below, either they are changed into WIND, or they assume the FORM OF MEN. [63] There are ten ranks or degrees among the ANGELS.[64]

The Quran says Iblis was created from fire:

4|Page

"We created you and then formed you and then We said to the ANGELS, "Prostrate before Adam" and they prostrated except for Iblis. lam yakun mina sjidna (Iblis WAS NOT AMONG THOSE WHO PROSTRATED). Allah said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" He (iblis) replied, "I am better than him. khalaqtan (YOU CREATED ME) min (FROM) nrin (FIRE) and You created him from clay". Allah said, "Descend from heaven. It is not for you to be arrogant in it. So get out! You are one of the abased." Surah 7/11-13. And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.". And they prostrated except Iblis (Satan), he refused wa-is'takbara (AND WAS PROUD) wakna (AND HE BECAME) one of the disbelievers. Sura 2/34 Again, Iblis became one of the disbelievers which indicate he was not alone in his rebellion.

So we have clearly Allah saying:

"Iblisa lam yakun mina sjidna (Iblis WAS NOT AMONG THOSE WHO PROSTRATED)" So we have Allah conveying to us that Iblis was not mina (of) ==> those (Angels) <== who prostrated which indicate that there were more than one Angel who did not prostrate. Again, the order was given to the Angels to prostrate and Iblis was of 'those' who did not. Also, the Arabic word ==> Kaana is maazi [past tense] not continuous.

The fall of Saw-tan

The extraordinary qualities with which Adam was blessed, physical and spiritual as well, aroused the envy of the angels. They attempted to consume him with fire, and he would have perished, had not the protecting HAND of Yahweh rested upon him, and established peace between him and the heavenly host. In particular, Saw-tan was jealous of the first man, and his evil thoughts finally led to his fall. After Adam had been endowed with a SOUL, Yahweh invited all the ANGELS to come and pay him reverence and homage. Saw-tan, THE GREATEST OF THE ANGELS in heaven, with TWELVE WINGS, instead of six like all the others, refused to pay heed to the behest of Yahweh, saying, "You didst create us ANGELS from the splendor of the Shekinah, and now You dost command us to cast ourselves down before the creature which You
5|Page

didst fashion out of the dust of the ground!" Yahweh answered, "Yet this dust of the ground has more wisdom and understanding than thou." Saw-tan demanded a trial of wit with Adam, and Yahweh assented thereto, saying: "I have created beasts, birds, and reptiles, I shall have them all come before thee and before Adam. If you are able to give them names, I shall command Adam to show honor unto you, and you shalt rest next to the Shekinah of My glory. But if not, and Adam calls them by the names I have assigned to them, then thou wilt be subject to Adam, and he shall have a place in My garden, and cultivate it." Thus spake Yahweh, and He betook Himself to Paradise, Saw-tan following Him. When Adam beheld Yahweh, he said to his wife, "O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker." Now Saw-tan attempted to assign names to the animals. He failed with the first two that presented themselves, the ox and the cow. Yahweh led two others before him, the camel and the donkey, with the same result. Then Yahweh turned to Adam, and questioned him regarding THE NAMES of the same animals, framing His questions in such wise that the first letter of the first word was the same as the first letter of THE NAME of the animal standing before him. Thus Adam divined the proper name, and Saw-tan was forced to acknowledge the superiority of the first man. Nevertheless he broke out in wild outcries that reached the heavens, and he refused to do homage unto Adam as he had been bidden. The host of angels led by him did likewise, in spite of the urgent representations of Michael, who was the first to prostrate himself before Adam in order to show a good example to the other angels. Michael addressed Satan: "Give adoration to the image of Yahweh! But if thou doest it not, then Yawheh Elohim will break out in wrath against thee." Satan replied: "If He breaks out in wrath against me, I will exalt my throne above the stars of Yahweh, I will be like the Most High!" At once Yahweh flung Satan and his host out of heaven, down to the earth, and from that moment dates the enmity between Satan and man.' Haggada (volume 1, chapter 2) Saw-tan was jealous of the first man, and his evil thoughts finally led to his fall. After Adam had been endowed with a SOUL, Yahweh invited all the ANGELS to come and pay him reverence and homage.

The Quran us something similar:

"And (remember) when your Lord said to the ANGELS: "Verily, I am going to place khalfatan earth." They said: "Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, - while we glorify You with praises and thanks and sanctify You." He (Allah) said: "I know that which you do not know." And He taught Adam all THE NAMES (of everything) , then He showed them to the ANGELS and said, "Tell Me THE NAMES of these if you are truthful." They (ANGELS) said: "Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise." He said: "O Adam! Inform them of their names," and when he had informed them of their names, He said: "Did I not tell you that I know the Ghaib (Unseen) in the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you have been concealing? And [mention] when We said to the ANGELS, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant kana (AND BECAME) of the disbelievers." Sura 2/30-34

Some say Iblis was a before his fall from grace, contrary to popular belief Iblis became a Jinn after he disobeyed Allahs commandment. Iblis was an Angel prior to his fall from grace.

In the Hebrew Scriptures about the ANGELS it says:

"He makes his ANGELS winds, his servants flames of fire." Hebrews 1:7 Hence, the Qur'an describes the Jinn's creative essence as 'nare-sumun' in Sura 15:27 and 'mariji-min nar' in Sura 55:15:

"And He created the jinn from mrijin (A SMOKELESS FLAME) min (OF) nrin (FIRE)." Sura 55/15 "wal-jna (AND THE JINN) khalaqnhu (WE CREATED IT) min qablu (BEFORE) min (FROM) nri (FIRE) sammi (SCORCHING)..." Sura 15/27

The Qur'an says that the command was given to the Angels to prostrate to Adam:
"And when We said unto the ANGELS: Prostrate yourselves before Adam, they fell prostrate, all save Iblis. He demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever." Sura 2/34 "And We created you then fashioned you, then told the ANGELS: Fall ye prostrate before Adam! And they fell prostrate, all save Iblis, who was not of those who make prostration." Sura 7/11 "So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. So the ANGELS fell prostrate, all of them together. Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate." Sura 15/28-31 "And when We said unto the ANGELS: Fall prostrate before Adam, they fell prostrate (all) save Iblis; he refused." Sura 20/116 "When thy Lord said unto the ANGELS: Lo! I am about to create a mortal out of mire, And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall down before him prostrate, The ANGELS fell down prostrate, every one, Saving Iblis; he was scornful and became one of the disbelievers." Sura 38/71-74

And when your Lord said to the angels, "I khliqun (WILL CREATE) basharan (A HUMAN) min allin min ama-in masnnin (OUT OF CLAY FROM BLACK MUD ALTERED). And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration. So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. He said: O Iblis! What prevents you that you are not among the prostrate? He said, "Never would I prostrate libasharin (TO A HUMAN) khalaqtahu (WHOM YOU CREATED) min allin ama-in masnnin (OUT OF CLAY FROM BLACK MUD ALTERED). [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. Sura 15/28-34

After the disobedience of Allah's command Iblis became a Jinn:

before Adam" and they prostrated except for Iblis. He was not among those who prostrated. Allah said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" He (iblis) replied, "I am better than him. You created me from FIRE and You created him from clay". Allah said, "Descend from heaven. It is not for you to be arrogant in it. So get out! You are one of the abased." Surah 7/11-13.

"And [mention] when We said to the ANGELS, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblis. kna (HE BECAME) of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange." Sura 18/50

Iblis was an ANGEL then after his disobedience he became a Jinn. The same Arabic word kana is used in other ayats that says its transitioning from one state to another:
Allah says: "So they denied them fakn (AND BECAME) of those destroyed." Sura 23/48 "Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," So it parted, fakna (AND BECAME) each portion was like a great towering mountain." Sura 26/63 And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.". And they prostrated except Iblis (Satan), he refused wa-is'takbara (AND WAS PROUD) wakna (AND HE BECAME) one of the disbelievers. Sura 2/34 So the above ayat tells us that Iblis refused Allahs command and he was proud and thus BECAME one of the disbelievers which again indicates more than one angel who disobeyed Allahs command. Also again, the Arabic word kana is being used in this ayat. wakna (AND HE BECAME) one of the disbelievers "And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblis. kna (HE BECAME) jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange." Sura 18:50 kna (HE BECAME) jinn and departed from the command of his Lord

But not Iblis: is'takbara (HE WAS ARROGANT) wakna (AND BECAME) mina (of) the disbelievers. Sura 38/74 Malaika are kings derived from malak means king / who holds authority being a higher position from Jinn.

If Iblis was of Jinn before he disobeyed Allah, then why he got punish when order was given only to malaaika [angels]?
It is wrongly translated and twisted its meaning to fit their personal understanding. Kana is always translated as was a Jinn. And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.". And they prostrated except Iblis, he refused wa-is'takbara (AND WAS PROUD) wakna (AND HE BECAME) one of the disbelievers. Sura 2/34

The Arabic word kana also means becomes:

"And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it fayaknu (AND IT BECOMES) a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers." Sura 3/49 "[The Day] when Allah will say, "O Isa, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, fataknu (AND IT BECOMES) a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from [killing] you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but obvious magic." Sura 5/110 "But Shaytanu whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that takn (YOU BECOME) angels or become of the immortal." Sura 7/20 "And recite to them, the news of him to whom we gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Shaytanu pursued him, fakna (AND HE BECAME) of the deviators." Sura 7/175 "And when the heaven is split open faknat (AND IT BECOMES) rose-colored like oil." Sura 55/37

Iblis himself became a Jinn after disobeying Allahs command. The word Iblis comes from the root word ( )Ba-Lam-Siin = despair, give up hope, become broken (in spirit), mournful, become silent/confounded/perplexed unable to see right way or course, repent/grieve. (LL, V1, p: 285)

So we have several ayats saying the same exact thing that kana means BECAME so how does this change when it comes to Iblis?
I knew nothing of the bialmalai alaAAla (Highest Assembly) when they ARGUED / DEBATED. It is only revealed to me that I am a clear warner. When your Lord said to the angels: "That I am creating a basharan (human) from mud/clay. When I have shaped him and breathed from My Spirit into him, bow down before him. The angels all bowed down together, Except Iblis. He was filled with pride and turned an unbeliever. Allah said, Iblis, what prevents you from bowing down to the man I have made with My own hands? Are you too high and mighty? Iblis said, I am better than him: YOU MADE ME FROM FIRE, and him from clay. Get out of here! You are

rejected Sura 38/69-77 Kh-Sad-Miim means to contend in an altercation, dispute/litigate in a sound or valid manner, to say a thing such as may cause the listener to refrain/desist from his assertion/plea/claim, overcome someone in an altercation, antagonize, put a thing on the edge/side or corner of something. Allah has created Adam, Eve, the Angelis with the option to disobey. Who said that Angels cant argue and dispute, disobey the Most High?

Some Muslims are under the impression that Angels cant disobey Allah and to defend this stance they refer to this ayat:
"And to Allah prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels, and they are not arrogant. They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded." Sura 16/49-50 From the ayat presented above it does seem that the Angels are not arrogant and they fear Allah and do as they are told. However, this does not prove that Angels dont have the option to disobey Allah. The fact that Iblis disobeyed Allahs commandment was the exception hence he was an Angel, yet he was too arrogant to make obeisance or homage before Adam. He was not of those Angels near to Allah. Allah says: lan (Never) would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah , wal (and not) malikatu (the ANGELS) muqarabna (THE ONES WHO ARE NEAR). Waman (And whoever) disdains ibdatihi (His service) and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself all together. Sura 4/172 And mention when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Isa, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among muqarabna (THOSE BROUGHT NEAR). Sura 3/45 From reading the above ayat we can see that the Angels can or have the ability to disdain from being a servant of Allah but the Angelic who are closest to Allah would never do this. This verse also demonstrates the fact that the Angels can disobey Allah. So from the above in Sura 4/173 Allah tells us that the Messiah would never disdain to be a servant of Allah and also includes the Angels of Allah hence those who are near to Allah. However, in Iblis situation he was not one of those Angels who were near to Allah so thus he was proud and became a Jinn.

There is a difference between Iblis creation and thus when he became a Jinn.

The Quran says Iblis was created from fire:

"We created you and then formed you and then We said to the ANGELS, "Prostrate before Adam" and they prostrated except for Iblis. He was not among those who prostrated. Allah said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" He (iblis) replied, "I am better than him. khalaqtan (YOU CREATED ME) min (FROM) nrin (FIRE) and You created him from clay". Allah said, "Descend from heaven. It is not for you to be arrogant in it. So get out! You are one of the abased." Surah 7/11-13. "Said He, 'Iblis, what prevented thee to bow yourself before that I created with My own hands? Are you of the exalted ones, or art thou of the lofty ones?' He said, "I am better than him. khalaqtan (YOU CREATED ME) min (FROM) nrin (FIRE) and created him from clay." Sura 38/75-76

Later on after Iblis refused to obey Allah he thus became a Jinn:

"And [mention] when We said to the ANGELS, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblis. kna (HE BECAME) of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange." Sura 18/50 The Jinn are beings who has been expelled from the Garden and sent to live on earth with the Adamites. Hence, the Qur'an describes the Jinn's creative essence as 'nare-sumun' in Sura 15:27 and 'mariji-min nar' in Sura 55:15. The creation of the Jinn is not predicated around being in the Heavenly unseen world but is more created to be in the world of the dunya, the world where the Jinn was given bodies in the physical realm where they live on earth with Al Ins (Adamites). Allah says: "And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?" They will be in sammin (SCORCHING) and scalding water." Sura 56/42 The same word is used below: sammin (SCORCHING) "wal-jna (AND THE JINN) khalaqnhu (WE CREATED IT) min qablu (BEFORE) min (FROM) nri (FIRE) sammi (SCORCHING)..." Sura 15/27 In Sura 56/42 shows that the companions of the left will be in scorching fire and scalding water. In order for something to be scorch there has to be a substance to scorch. This demonstrates the makeup of the Jinn. Thus, the composition elements of the Jinn do not necessarily allude to a literal understanding of fire.

14 | P a g e

The Arabic word 'Sumun' in Sura 15:27 gives the us a sense of ferocity, intensity and 'marij' in Sura 55:15 the implication of something which retains an unsteady composition, though flowing freely yet confused and somewhat impaired. Siin-Miim-Miim = to poison, penetrate, be burning hot. sammun - hole, eye of a needle, small doorway at the side of a large gate. samun - pestilential scorching wind which penetrate into the bodies. In the context of fire, it is often interpreted as smokeless fire, a flame mixed with the black substance of fire, blast of hot, burning or scorching wind. The creation of the Jinn demonstrates that there was something being penetrated, being burned hot, scorched. " And He created the jinn from mrijin (A SMOKELESS FLAME) min (OF) nrin (FIRE)." Sura 55/15 Now marinin means confused, impaired: "But they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in marjin (A CONFUSED) condition." Sura 50/5 Iblis was created as an Angel, hence Angels are created from fire and the Angels who fall from grace and who becomes disbelievers becomes Jinn which are created from a scorching, smokeless fire (clay) and are expelled out of the Heavenly realm and place on earth to live as physical beings.
