Maxim MAX5072/3 Buck/Boost Converter Configuration Tool

This spreadsheet is intended to help set up and configure the Maxim MAX5072 and MAX5073 Dual Output Buck or Boost Con directed by the component datasheet. All cells that require the user to enter a value are formatted with a light blue background. Be sure to observe the units ma automatic calculation is turned on in the Excel Options menu, the calculated values will update every time an unprotected cel cells with a light green background

To use this configuration tool, begin on the Configuration worksheet and enter the desired switching frequency in the blue cel value for ROSC. Next, proceed to either the Buck or Boost worksheet(s) and begin by entering the input and output voltages a voltages and transient characteristics can be entered in the appropriate cells. The spreadsheet will calculate component val type (II or III) and component values for buck and boost configurations will be indicated on the Buck Compensation

The capacitor selections are based on standard component values, and the indicated ESR and capacitance values should be r mount X5R capacitors. (The Murata GRM32, GRM 43, and GRM55 series parts are a good starting point.) The inductor value Engineering P0751.xxx datasheet - the actual Pulse Engineering part number is indicated in the Buck and designs, it is by no means the only inductor that will work, and the user is welcome to source other components with similar

The worksheets are set up to calculate component values for converter 1 of the MAX5072/3. The results will also apply to con switch limit of 1.8A for converter 2. (Converter 1 has a peak switch current limit of 3A). Also, be sure not to exceed the respectively. The internal high-side switch RDS(ON) values must also be entered appropriately - about 200 m

The worksheets are password-protected to prevent inadvertant changes to the formulas. The protected cells can still be selec can be unlocked with the password "maxim". There are also four hidden sheets that contain the capacitor and inductor compo the Format/Sheet/Unhide option on the Excel toolbar. If a cell value is entered that causes one or more key parameters to go outside of allowable ranges, the offending value will another value until the limiting parameter is within design limits. It is important to note that not allpossible design erro check before committing the design to hardware.

The inductor values and ESR specifications are pulled directly from the Pulse Buck and Boost worksheets. The protected cells can still be selected to view the actual calculations. If desired, the protected sheets ain the capacitor and inductor component specification look-up tables; these can be revealed by selecting
