THE AMAZING MARKET DAY CHALLENGE!

Activity C Market Research II

Activity C

In groups, divide up tasks and answer the questions that follow. What does the target market want? 1. Using Excel, enter the results of your market research questions (Activity B Market Research I). 2. Use Excel to display your main findings into graphs and tables.
How much money will you spend at market day? 5 10 15 20 What are you most likely to buy? Product Food Drink What type of food would you purchase? Sweet Savoury What drink would you prefer? Fizzy Flat How much money did you spend last year? 5 10 15 20 Year 9 2 4 3 2 3 9 Year 7-8 5 7 3 1 8 10 1 16

3 7 7 3 2 5 1 1

14 1 5 2 4

3. Use Excel to process your data into totals, averages, etc.

7-8 what product would you buy

Drink 5% Product 42% Food 53%

4. Transfer graphs and numeric findings into a Word document, and prepare a summary report of your main findings. Most year 7-8 students want sweet food, yet 9-10 want savory. And it is more likely that year 7-8s will buy whatever year 9-10 is buying. Also senior school will probably buy more things that year 9-10 buy so this is targeting a larger audience. More year 7-8 and 9-10 want food rather than drink or product. We found that most year 7-8 had $10, whether year 9-10 had a reasonably range of 5-20 5. Make some general conclusions about how many people shop at Market Day, who these people are, how much money they spend there, how many different products they are likely to shop for, what kind of products they shop for, etc. etc. Most people will spend around $10, they will most likely shop for food or if they are year 7-8 product. 6. Upload this document to your blog (this should be your second entry). How can you meet your target markets wants? 7. Brainstorm THREE possible Marketing Mixes (not just products!) that could successfully meet the wants of your target market and out play your competitors in the game for the Market Day consumer dollar. Marketing mix A: Product: Noodles, Stir fry Promotion: Aimed at year 9-10 and senior school, so probably a sophisticated poster Price: $3-$4 as many of our target market has $10-$15 to spend. Place: We will sell it at market day. Marketing mix B: Product: Nutella crepes Promotion: Aimed at year 7-8, so some kind of cute bright poster Price: $2-$3.50 as target market doesnt have as much to spend Place: We will sell it at market day

Product: Fried rice Promotion: Aimed at year 9-10 and senior school, so a poster near their classrooms and maybe a Facebook page Price: $3.50-$4.50 as most have $10-$15 to spend Place: We will sell it on market day 8. Upload your groups Market Research Activities (C and D) and Marketing Mix brainstorms (photos or scans are fine) to your blog. Make a comment on each.
