Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure Prepared by: Greg Hecker Date: 4/30/07 Purpose: To install and align the

Ceph collimator for both Pan and Ceph.

1) Ensure Ceph Arm is Level and Ceph Arm Plate center hole is lined up with Adjuster Base hole.

2) Before attaching PanX-C Collimator Assembly (4990420), place Collimator Thread Ring (4990-632) inside collar ring and adjust screws to hold in neutral position, (Centered) 3) Remove Collimator Thread Ring from collar ring, but leave screws in set position. 4) Screw on Collimator Thread Ring (4990-632) to X-ray tube head. 5) Ensure that brass thread from tube head protrudes 1 thread about 1/16 from Clamp and set screws are at about 45 degree angle 6) Tighten set screws. 7) Place Collimator Track Top (4990-622) in neutral position.

Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure 8) Place Collimator Assembly on Collimator Thread Ring.

9) Ensure Collimator Joint Bar is square to tube head and side plate is parallel to tube head bottom.

10) Attach Collimator Core Clamp (4990-630) to side plates.

11) Tighten the 2 M4 screws on the Core clamp to secure the Collimator Assembly to tube head.

12) Remove Collimator Slide Plate

13) Install Tube Head Lock Bracket (4990-640). Do not tighten cap screws.

Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure 14) Install Cam and Arm Assembly

15) Tighten Plunger until bottomed out on cam and then back out 1 full turn.

16) Tighten Jam nut.

17) Place large phosphor screen in front of Pan Sensor. Have center of graph aligned with center of sensor active area.

18) Temporally tape the Pan Slide Plate Limit switch in the active position.

19) Set PanX machine to Test Mode 10 20) Activate X-ray and align beam so that the top thin part is centered on phosphor. Beam alignment is achieved by rotating tube head and shifting the Tube Head Lock Bracket.

Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure 21) Tighten M4 Cap screws on Tube Head Lock Bracket when beam is aligned.

22) Place Slide Assembly (4990-524) in place and put into Pan Position.

23) Adjust Collimator Track Top (4990-622) to center X-ray beam on phosphor.

24) Tighten 4 M4 Screws on Collimator Track Top.

25) Reset PanX Machine 26) Rotate Tube head into Ceph position. 27) Slide Collimator into AP position.

28) Ensure PanX-C Collimator Cross Hair (4905-170) is in place 29) Place Imager Cross Hair is in place.

Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure

30) Have a computer running DICOM set up to take Ceph images. 31) Center hole of Collimator Cross Hair to be aligned with Stand-off ring on imager Cross Hair.

32) With Adjustment Cam cap screws loose, adjust the left and right of the Collimator Cross hair by rotating tube head. 33) Tighten M4 cap screws when aligned.

34) With 6 M4 screws on Collimator Track Assembly loose the height can be adjusted by the Collimator Ring adjustment screws. (To move image down loosen top screw and tighten bottom screw. To move image up, loosen bottom screw and tighten top screw.)

35) Tighten the 6 M4 screws on the Collimator Track Assembly

Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure 36) Tighten the 2 M4 side screws on the Collimator Ring.

37) Set Slide Plate to Pan 38) Have Dicom set up to take Pan images 39) Rotate Tube Head into Pan position. 40) Set PanX machine to Test Mode 9 41) Install Pan Collimator on Slide Plate.

42) With Steel filter in place take Pan Image

43) By examining Pan image, adjust Pan Collimator so that it is vertically straight and centered.

44) Tighten Pan Collimator screws. 45) Remove PanX-C Collimator Cross Hair and place PanX-C Reducer Collimator on Slide Plate.

46) The Collimator Assembly is now aligned. 47) Adjust Rotation Selection Switches for both Pan and Ceph on PanX-C Tube Head Lock Bracket.

Ceph Collimator Alignment Procedure 48) Adjust 2 Stopping M4 Cap Screws on Tube Head Lock Bracket.
