Petrol Engine and Performance Details

The 4.6 V8 VX petrol model has increased power of 227 kW @ 5500 r/min and torque of 439 Nm @ 3400 r/min. A Dual Variable Valve Timing intelligent engine (Dual VVT i ) continuously adapts to driving conditions to optimise performance and fuel economy while minimising emissions. The engine can deliver this kind of performance by not only varying the intake camshaft timing, but the exhaust timing as well. A 6-speed automatic transmission makes for easier driving.

Diesel Engine and Performance Details

Its full-time 4WD System is underpinned by its superior Torsen LSD (Limited Slip Differential) in the centre differential that instantly optimises front and rear torque distribution on straights, corners or slippery surfaces to maintain the vehicles stability across virtually any driving condition imaginable. The Torsen LSD also distributes torque with a bias towards the rear wheels so that stability is maintained even when accelerating or driving at high speeds. During acceleration while cornering, this rearwheel bias is further increased to maximise performance and minimise understeering. The Land Cruiser 200s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) is an innovative suspension technology that automatically adjusts the suspension depending on the road surface. This system means that just the right suspension stroke is delivered for both on-road travelling and off-road exploring. Front and rear stabilisers are linked by a hydraulic pressure system that suppresses any roll that occurs on-road while ensuring free wheel-stroke off-road. The overall benefit is greater vehicle stability wherever you venture. On-road, the hydraulic system locks to increase the stabiliser bars rigidity which in turn limits body roll. When the KDSS is engaged, working in the same way as a regular suspension, it restrains the roll to allow for superb turning performance. Off-road, the hydraulic system opens to increase the stabiliser bars flexibility, which in turn, increases wheel travel. The KDSS suspension stroke is available even when a wheel is up in the air during off-road conditions. This contributes to a flat ride quality, superior stability and outstanding manoeuvrability over rough terrain. PETROL AND BRAKE PEDAL OPERATION IS NECESSARY

Both VX petrol and diesel models come standard with CRAWL Control, and HAC (Hill-start Assist Control).
Both VX models feature a Multi-Terrain Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist System (BAS) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD). The Multi-Terrain ABS system uses control logic that instantly detects off-road driving conditions, such as dirt or sand, and automatically switches to the optimum ABS setting that would be best suited for that specific surface condition. Working together with the ABS system, the BAS system assists the driver with emergency braking when the driver cannot apply the high pedal force required to obtain the shortest possible braking distance. EBD is a sophisticated electronic system thats designed to minimise the stopping distance by maximising braking power to the wheels with the most grip. CRAWL Control works like cruise control, but at a much lower speed, to minimise wheel lock and spin and increase the ease of the drive, stability and safety. Whether tackling mud or rock, this system automatically manages both the engine and brakes, maintaining the vehicle at a constant, low steady speed that allows the driver to concentrate on steering the vehicle, especially when negotiating out of tight spots. Hill-start Assist Control enables a smooth start on hills by automatically applying brake pressure whenever rollback is detected, making driving on muddy or rocky terrain and inclines, easier, more comfortable and safer.

MINIMISED WHEEL-LOCK AND SPIN

In addition to these systems, the VX models also feature Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and a Multi-terrain Monitor. VSC optimises vehicle stability by automatically controlling the engine output and braking force of each wheel. This system automatically activates as soon as the vehicle begins to skid due to a sudden change in steering and reduces excessive side slipping of the tyres to help return the vehicle to a zone of control. Both on and off-road, the A-TRAC computer system provides stable traction on unpaved or muddy roads, without locking the rear differential, by ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of engine output and independently controlling the braking pressure of all four wheels. A Multi-Terrain Monitor, fitted with four cameras on the front and back exterior sides, gives the driver a 360 degree view of all four wheels at ground level. This view is displayed on a screen on the dashboard so that the driver can see what the wheels are doing while manoeuvring the vehicle off-road without having to get out and look.
