1. TITANIC

News Article

Documentary

Feature Film

How should each text be read? How are they different from each other? What should you look for in each text? What should you expect from them? What questions should you ask when you read/interpret each text? Can your questions for the news article also be your questions for the feature lm? Why/Why not?

The news article and documentaries provide reliable data, with an acceptable amount of bias. They can be taken as is, however the inuence behind their creation affects the presentation. They are good for dates and times and historical facts. Meanwhile, the feature lm is best taken as a work of art, they go to great lengths to evoke emotion from the audience, at the cost of historical accuracy. Hence they may or may not be taken as factual or artistic representation of the event, but perhaps only as a means of better recreating and capturing the event, or the feeling of it. Hence when dealing with these different forms, one will likely encounter differences, and therefore should tackle them differently, taking the strengths of each and using those to make knowledge.

2. COMICS/CARTOONS/ANIMATION

Above is creative poster of the Justice League. What is the point of this genre? How is this genre different from other genres? What should you expect when you read texts such as this? What questions should you ask? What questions should you not ask? Explain your answer.

Comic books as a genre reect and satisfy man's interest both in feats of superhuman capability and accomplishment and also tales of virtuous role models that carry on in man's tradition since time immemorial. Comic books rarely conform to the fabric of reality, and therefore should never be taken at face value. Rather, their purpose is to convey and epitomise the morals that society holds above all else. Questions then arise on the nature of the characters and their foes, rather than realism of the plot or their superpowers.

3. THE DA VINCI CODE

The Book

The Movie Adaptation

What is the common genre of these texts? How should you deal with this genre? What should you expect from these texts? What should you not expect from them? What questions should you ask when you read and interpret these texts? What questions should you not ask?

Science Fiction wishes to evoke thoughts outside of the norms of society. They open up new perspectives, often taking place in alternate realities that may or may not be similar to that of present reality. That said, realism and application to life generally less on the premise of the story and more on the actions and implications of these on the characters, often portrayed as human in nature. The question lie therein, touching on morality, and character, rather than the implication that such event take place in reality at present.

4. RELIGIOUS ART

How should you deal with these texts? What should you expect from them? What should you not expect from them? What questions should you ask in reading these texts? What should you not ask? In light of the genre, what is the purpose of this kind of texts?

Religious art's main goal is the evoke emotion from its audience, particularly those that subscribe to the same religion, but not excluding those of other faiths. Certain details can be exaggerated or added or removed to create a more coherent piece. Therefore one should consider the different emotions evoked and reasons that lie behind the arising of that emotion. These texts serve to give an atmosphere of contemplation or reverence and faith.
