1. The Legend Of Herbert Smear

If done well, this classic Halloween sensory experience is always a hit. Ahead of time, prepare whats left of poor Herbert Smear. Place each item in a separate open container. Choose a great story teller to narrate the eventsomeone who can easily exaggerate and embellish the tale and who can follow the lead provided by your guests reactions. Blindfold your guests, have them sit in a circle on the floor, and as the narrator shares the gruesome tale, pass the body parts around the circle for each to feel. Or, in the end of a box, cut a hole large enough to reach a hand in; put each item in its own box. Brains Scrambled Brains Worms Hair Eyes Heart Intestines Blood Hands Ears Nose Bones: Barf/Vomit Flesh Teeth Veins Maggots A head of cauliflower, overcooked and warm; a peeled, squishy tomato Lumpy cottage cheese Live earthworms, or gummy worms Corn Silk best to get a few days before the party and let it dry out. Two frozen olives, or peeled grapes A large slice of uncooked beef liver Soggy marshmallows strung together for long intestines - slimy Ketchup thinned with water Two wet latex gloves filled with red gelatin Large dried apricots The end of a pickle or a hot dog, a soft chicken bone or gristle Fresh crisp celery Chunky salsa and canned corn mixed together Mashed Potatoes topped with potato flakes, add coloring Dried popcorn kernels Cooked, cold spaghetti Cooked, cold rice

2. Spider Web
Youll need: A ball of yarn for each player Halloween Music Give each player a ball of yarn. Players tie one end of the yarn loosely around their waist and then stand in a circle. Play your favorite Halloween music CD. Whenever the music stops, players toss their ball of yarn to anyone in the circle. Then, each player wraps the yarn around any part of his or her bodyaround their leg, arm, waist, foot, fingers, but not around the neck. Play the music again, tossing the yarn to another player when the music stops. Continue until players run out of yarn. There are no winners or losers, and players will be entertained for quite a long time. Plus, theyll have fun untangling themselves.

3. Eyeball Relay
Youll need: 1 Ping pong ball for each team (painted like an eyeball) 1 Spoon for each team Divide players into teams. Give the first person on each team a spoon and a ping pong ball. Set up the course to where they have to carry the "EYE" on the spoon to the end of the course and come back. Hand off to the next player and continue until all team members have run the course. First team done wins!

4. Ghost Waiter
Supplies needed: Balloon for each team Paper plate for each team Divide children into teams. Set up a course for them to race on. The child has to balance a balloon on a paper plate while walking it down the course and back to their team.

5. Fake Wounds
Youll Need: Petroleum jelly Toothpick Bowl Red food coloring A white tissue Powdered cocoa Place a finger-full of petroleum jelly into a bowl. Use a toothpick to blend three or four drops of red food coloring with the petroleum jelly. To make the color a darker bloodlike red, blend in a pinch of cocoa. Separate the layers of a tissue, then rip out a small rectangle from one layer about 3 inches by 2 inches. Place the tissue at your wound site (the back of the forearm is a good spot). First, cover the tissue with the plain petroleum jelly, molding a gooey wound. Smear the blood color petroleum jelly in the center of the wound, sprinkle cocoa onto the edges, and rub the cocoa in to make the edges dark. Now go show someone! Be prepared with a sad or spine-tingling story, too!

6. Raising Raisins
Youll need: A bottle of clear soda Raisins Put a few of raisins into a bottle of clear soda and watch them rise and shimmy like they've come to life! The irregular surfaces of raisins hold some carbon dioxide from the carbonation in the soda, and when enough bubbles accumulate, they lift raisins to the surface.

7. Natural Gas
Youll need: One packet of yeast (available in the grocery store) A small, clean, clear, plastic soda bottle 1 teaspoon of sugar Warm water Small balloon Fill the bottle up with about one inch of warm water. Add all of the yeast and gently swirl the bottle a few seconds. Add the sugar and swirl it around some more. As the yeast absorbs the sugar, it creates a GAS carbon dioxide. Put the neck of the balloon over the top of the bottle and allow the bottle to sit for a while in a warm place. Soon the balloon should start to blow up because it is filling with the gas created by the living yeast! When youve amazed your friends, remove the balloon and throw it away. Pour out the yeast solution in the sink. What does it smell like?

8. Paper Clip Float

Dont eat or drink this floathold out for the rootbeer float from your favorite ice cream hangout. But challenge your friends to make a paper-clip float! Youll need: Clean dry paper clips Tissue paper A bowl of water Pencil with eraser Fill the bowl with water, and try to make the paper clip float! When others have tried, tear a piece of tissue paper about half the size of a dollar bill. Very gently drop the tissue flat onto the surface of the water. Now, carefully place a dry paper clip flat onto the tissue. Use the eraser end of the pencil to carefully poke the tissuenot the paper clipuntil the tissue sinks. With some luck, the tissue will sink and leave the paper clip floating!

9. Quick Change Artist

Youll need: 1/4 Cup grape juice Small, clear glass 1 Tablespoon of baking soda 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar Pour the grape juice into the glass. Slowly mix the baking soda into the grape juice. The color at the top of the juice will change to blue. Now add the vinegar to the mixture, a drop at a time; the color will change to pink where the vinegar drips. Pour out the liquid in the sink and notice how dark it becomes. Grape juice looks purple because its molecules are arranged in such a way that it absorbs all the colors of light except purple. Adding other substances changes the molecular structure of grape juice, so its color changes.

10. What Smells?

Have fun experimenting with smells! Collect several items that have distinctive smells such as: lemon, orange peel, perfume soaked cotton, banana, pine needles, chocolate, coffee, dirt, vanilla, garlic, onion, mint, vinegar, moth balls, rose petals, saw dust, and pencil shavings. If youre brave enough, add some disgusting smells, too. Keep the items separated and enclosed in plastic containers so that the odors do not mix. Blindfold a friendor punch holes in the top of the containers to eliminate the need of a blindfold. Can your friends identify each item by smell? Do your friends have an immediate reaction to certain smells? Can they share memories associated with the smell?

11. Broom Dance

Youll need: A broom Explain that youre going to teach your guests the Broom Dance. Then, you stand up, hold the broom, loudly clear your throat, and then begin dancing around with exaggerated gestures and dance steps while singing, "I can do a broom dance, broom dance, broom dance, I can do a broom dance, can you?" After your performance, point to another player, who must get up and try to do the broom dance exactly as you demonstrated. Chances are the players will forget to do one the one key action: no matter what your steps or hand gestures are, the Broom Dance is not complete unless you clear your throat before you start.

12. Truly Tasteless Experiment

Youll need: Pieces of an apple, onion, and a potato Convince your friends that they won't be able to taste the difference between an apple, an onion, and a potato. Place a blindfold around a friend's eyes. Make your friend hold her nose; then place a small piece of apple, potato, or onion on the center of her tongue. Ask your friend to identify the piece just by taste and without chewing. Do the same thing with the other two pieces of food. Taste buds are tiny organs on your tongue that identify four basic tastes: salt, sweet, sour, and bitter. Since the center of your tongue has fewer taste buds than any other part of the tongue, it's hard to recognize foods that are only placed there.

13. Vampire Soap

Youll need: A small jar Laxative tablets (available from a grocery or drug store) Rubbing alcohol Soap and water In a small jar, crush one or two pieces of a laxative and add a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. 14. Rubber Eggs

Youll need: An egg Glass jar Vinegar Make a quivering, rubbery egg sac! Place an egg in a jar. Pour in some vinegar until the egg is covered. Tiny bubbles will soon appear all over the shell. Over the next few hours the hard shell of the egg will disappear. What's left behind is the egg sac that surrounds the egg white and yolk and keeps them intact. Handle this delicate "rubber" egg carefully, or you'll have a big mess on your hands! The vinegar is an acid that dissolves the calcium in the shell.

15. Egg Float

Youll need: Two large glasses filled with lukewarm water Cup Salt 1 Egg Make an egg float and astonish your guests! Thoroughly dissolve about 1/2 cup of salt in one glass of water. Gather your audience around. Drop the egg into the unsalted water. It will sink to the bottom. Remove the egg and look sad, pretending your experiment never works. Now put the egg into the salt water, and your audience will be amazed to see the egg float.

16. Egg In A Bottle

Youll need: Cooking oil, butter, or margarine An 8-oz glass baby bottle Two small, shelled, hard-boiled eggs A piece of paper, four inches square Matches Adult supervision How do you get a shelled, hard-boiled egg into a narrow-necked bottle without damaging the egg? Carefully light one end of the paper with a match, and drop it into the bottle. Quickly place the egg onto the mouth of the bottle. You did it!

The sign, if you touch its nose, says Handy Dandy Candy Store." The revolving door spins around and around whenever it is touched. There is really no end to the number of items in the store. When the skit has reached its limit, the last friend, clued in ahead of time, says "If this is a candy store, where's all the candy?" The storeowner replies, "What are you talking about?
