SAP-DMS-CAD AutoCAD Inventor integration

DOC Types
• Create Doc Types
1. IPT for Inventor Part.
2. IAM for Inventor Assembly
3. IDW for inventor Drawing.
• Number scheme for Doc Types
 External Numbering (in CAD desktop customizing customize to map DIR
number as one of the file properties from inventor file)
• Versioning scheme use 00 to 99
• Set Laboffice, Doc status, person responsible, and description are the required
fields. CAD indicator display only field.
• Doc status
 Create life cycle as below
 Set it in such a way that when you check out from DC file should
automatically move to IW and when you check in at IW status should
automatically move to DC (this should happen in CAD Desktop). Hint:
use different types of status that you can set to example O or S.

• Create WS of INV for checking in IPT, IAM, and IDW.

 • Create WS applications for neutral file formats STL, BMP, and JPG.
• Don’t have authorization to check out IPT, IAM and IDWs where as for neutral
files you can have set for opening locally.
• Set up neutral files to be opened in ECL viewer.

Classification
• Create Class PLMINVDOCS.
• Create Characteristics DOC_REV and DOC_DRAWNBY. (create characteristics
as char type with a field length of 20). Don’t put any values leave them open.

DOC Types
• Add WorkStation application and Classification to the IPT, IAM, and IDW
document types.

CAD Desktop
• Customize CAD Desktop so that you can Create and check in files.
• Map DOC_REV for all doc types from Revision in iproperty in CAD file.
• Map DOC_DRAWNBY for all doc types from custom property with the name
DrawnBy.
• Map DIR number as Partnumber from iproperty in CAD file.
• Map Description of DIR as Title from iproperty in CAD file.
• Map Long text of DIR as Comments from iproperty in CAD file.
• Create Material with same number as DIR number.
• Create Material with same description as DIR description.
• Create Material with Mechanical but type might be different so leave it open.
(HALB, FERT, or RAW)
• Create BOM type 1
• In CAD Desktop should be able to checkin and create all documents.

Inventor Config file customizing

Inventor integration by default is set to create a DIR when you are logged into SAP and
try to save file.
• Customize the config file that when you save file DIR is created and DIR number
is taken from Partnumber from iproperty in CAD file.
• Map Description of DIR as Title from iproperty in CAD file.
• Map Long text of DIR as Comments from iproperty in CAD file.
• Map Characteristic DOC_REV from Revision in iproperty in CAD file.

 • Map characteristic DOC_DRAWNBY from custom property with the name
DrawnBy.

Updating DIR Classification values

• If Revision in iproperty in CAD file is changed it should be reflected in DIR.
• If change is made to Drawnby custom property in CAD file then it should reflect
in DIR.

Working Directory
• Set working directory as C:\SAP\Inventor

Logon
• Set the client as default.
• Set logon so that it does not prompt to logon into SAP at the time of opening
inventor.
• Set logon so that it does not ask for change number at the time of logon into SAP.

Neutral file creation

• Set BMP as the neutral file format to be created automatically for Assembly and
drawings.
• Set STL as the neutral file format to be created automatically for Part.
• Set it to check in these neutral files automatically upon checkin of DIR.
