Dear brethren,

Evangelism is bringing great changes in the Aparri church. Nine have been baptized into Christ since last fall when Basilio Ibarra came as a part-time preacher. Sunday night a newly baptized couple brought their neighbors, a young couple with
children who had attended their Bible study In the afternoon. Bible studies under

Bro. Ibarra, Ben Castillo, and ABS students are going on throughout the week. The elders are also planning an intensive evangelistic campaign for this summer. We
rejoice to see the church waking up and growing.

In big, bold letters the caption, THE POWER OF JESUS, marched across the red
curtain in the Seminary Hall, at the students' Forensic Society annual presentation February 5. The drama, "The Raising of Jairus' Daughter," and^songs sung between the scenes portrayed the theme beautifully. Visitors filled our hall to overflowing, and in spite of a 45-minute black-out, the program really expressed THE POWER OF JESUS.

Marj has been busy practicing the choir for Conmencement, the Forensic Society for Its program, and various small groups for our Candidates' Banquet. The largest class ever to graduate from the Aparri Bible Seminary will do so on March 5i 10 receiving degrees, and four receiving certificates. This class has a good share of serious, committed students, and all fourteen of them promise to be effective in the Lord's
work. We're proud of them.

We continue to be blessed by visitors in our home. Within the past week: Dennis McKinney, fellow-missionary who reported twelve baptisms + many prospects in the meeting held at Ballesteros just last week; Louis van Ness, who was on his way to minister to sick Negritos living just about three hours east of us; Sherri Kafton, who just completed three months of work in Kulpahar, India; Tom Oswald, a Christian presently working as a chemist at LSU, who is particularly interested in Bible
translation. How fortunate we are to share in the lives of others.

Our missionary meeting with the Christian/Churches get-together. We will pray one another and Pauline and

promises to be a thrilling one as eighteen missionaries of Christ gather in Cebu City March 11-14 in an informal together, share reports of our work, and be inspired by Mark Maxey (missionaries from Japan) who will be joining
We will also be

us. Mark will bring messages on "The Fundamentals of our Faith," sharing our love and concern with the Cebuano Christians.

Sid will be going to Manila this weekend to speak at the Cruzada Church of Christ and to take care of important matters for the mission. In leading devotions this week, he has challenged the students, faculty, and staff to put their utmost into evangelism of the lost. How we pray that our Lord will enable all of us to witness for Him more
and more effectively.

Dear Christian friends.

We're home again!

I'm beginning to understand what Jesus meant when He

(Ref.: Matt. 19:29.)

promised that if we left houses or families . . . for His sake, we would have a
hundred-fold in this life and in the end eternal life.

Coming back on furlough, we are home! Returning to the Philippines in May, 1983, we will be going home! The secret is that God's people, wherever we are, make us
at home. We're.fortunate again this furlough to have the privilege of living in
the missions trailer on the campus of Ozark Bible College.

Our arrival in Joplin March 20 was timely, as Marj was suffering with an abscessed skin cyst which had to be lanced, drained, and finally removed. The final report said it was absolutely not-malignant, and that good news took away the sting of having to lay out a bundle of cash unexpectedly.
A visit to Palestine might seem too costly for missionaries on furlough, but we made the trip down there to see Sid's mother and her husband. Jack Moody, in one

day.

That was Palestine, TEXAS.

That was a homecoming, with Mama's good cooking,

visits from relatives, and Jack and Mama's loving care. Sid spoke briefly at the Sunday school they attend, and we met some fine Christian folks there.

If we needed anything more to make us feel- at home, we found it in the joy of seeing Marj's sisters Bernice and June, and June's husband Dave in Nebraska the next week; and in the warm welcome expressed by our dear Christian friends in Angus and
Fairfield. Angus Church of Christ has supported us since 1964; we're thankful!

The Lord is working in some very exciting ways in the Philippines and we'd like very much to share this news with you. Please let us know if you would like us to come and tell you about our work in the Philippines. Our schedule at the present includes the following: Sunday morning Albert Lea, Minnesota May 9; Friday night Faith-Promise Eagle Lake, Minn. May 14; Vacation Bible School June 6-11 Ames, Iowa; camp June 6-11 Fort Smith, Ark.j VBS Joplin, Mo., June 13-18; camp June 13-18; Scott & Darla's wedding July 24; N.A.C.C. July 27-30; camp Pom de Terre, Mo August
8-14. Please contact us if we can speak for your church.

Marj will be teaching two classes at Ozark Bible College next school year: English and A History of World Religions. Both of us are available on weekends,
and Sid can speak during the week.

In December we'll be adjusting to a new role, as Rob and Berta present us with a grandson/daughter. (Choose one!) We're delighted with this news, and we think it's also very timely, but as Sid says, "it'll be hard to leave a five-month old grandbaby
May 1983!"

We have one very great need that we ask you to be in prayer about. When we return to the Philippines the last part of May in 1983, we will need a 4th grade
teacher for Carolyn. We'd like to recruit someone from the U.S. to teach her.

While a college degree in education is not necessary, teaching experience would be valuable. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, let us know. And
whatever else you do, PRAY WITH US. Praise His Name! He will take care of it.

We thank all of you for your faithfulness in caring for our needs through prayer and financial gifts. Our living link needs have increased as we recently took out medical insurance, and as the cost of living continues to rise. We know
the Lord will meet our needs in this as He always has; we wanted to share this with
you that you might pray with us.

May He "equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and
ever" (Heb. 13:21).

Yours in Christ,
4^

Dear Christian friends,

We are looking forward to seeing many of you in the near future as we attempt to tell of the Lord's work in the Philippines. The Aparri Bible Seminary began its 31st year last month with Bro. Seth V7ilson teaching in a two-week seminar with 600 people attending. There was a good response in all three camps this summer; 198 young people attended and 31 accepted Christ"as Lord and Savicr.

One project we want to accomplish while on furlough is the making

of a filmstrip for Filipinos to be used in personal eyangeJ ism and

outdoor meetings. Lloyd Selby and Harvey Beard will take slides of Filipinos in their homes, Sid and Marj v/ill revise the script to fit
Philippine culture, and Ilocano translators Ben Castillo and Pederico

Bueno will translate the script into Ilocano.

The series of five will

cost'$150 each, with ten copies apiece. Projectors will cost $130. Two Vacation Bible Schools have contributed $400 towards this goal. If you are interested in this project, please pray and give as you can.
Great news from Aparri.' Whole families are accepting Christ, and others we know are learning about Jesus through Bible studies being conducted in the homes by an evangelistic team sponsored by the Aparri church. Thirty souls have responded within Aparri in an area just a
few blocks wide. I believe even more will make their decision to fol

low Christ when we hear again about this all-important phase of the work.' Pray to God fervently for Aparri. We consider it a joy and privilege to share news with you who make our work possible. Please contact us for speaking dates at our address; P.O. Box 1641, Joplin, MO 64802, or call us: (417)-624-6971.

If you're driving through Joplin, come by and see us on the campus of

Ozark Bible College, Trailer #8 (missions trailer).
How wonderful i t i s to be with our families and children again: enjoying preparations for Scott & Darla' s wedding July 24; anticipating

Berta & Rob's baby due in December; counseling our children in decisions of life-changing importance. We're glad to be so near Sid's mother while she is undergoing tests for severe headache pain. In analyzing a brain scan on her, the doctor reported a condensation on her pituitary gland which may require surgery. Please remember her in your prayers.

We praise our God for the great joy of serving Him. We pray that He will multiply your ministry, also. Thank you for your faithful
support.

In Christ,

Sid & Marj
