10th Annual International Animation Festival Starts July 25, 2013

To Be Held at Music Hall of Williamsburg, Rooftop Films and BAMcinematek

New York City (February 06, 2013) Ten years ago, there was minimal exposure for young unknown animators to exhibit and promote their animated artistry until the Animation Block Party festival debuted in New York City capturing immediate attention from animators, enthusiasts, and event goers everywhere. What began as a one day screening event of animated-shorts back in 2004, immediately skyrocketed into an annual three day affair accompanied by music, drinks, special events, and after-parties, drawing crowds from all over the world. This summer, Animation Block Party will celebrate its tenth year with a new venue, more music, and special surprises in store beginning July 25th. Founded and curated by acclaimed animator, Casey Safron, the pioneering festival was one of the first of its kind with only one initiative: to showcase animation. With over a decade of animation production and education work under his belt, Safron plans on taking his now famous block party into a bigger, badder, better world of animation, Now that its officially year ten of Animation Block Party, its become clear to me that ABP is the biggest pure animation festival in America and in many ways, were just getting started. The festival has been known to premiere some of worlds most acclaimed animated shorts before they screen at Sundance, Toronto, Annecy and Ottawa. Since its initial launch, the festival has attracted thousands of attendees and entries by artists throughout world, even bringing in new fans that never showed much animation interest. The annual festival has already made some impressive collaborations, such as their partnership with MTV back in 2008, which broadcast a series called Perfectland based on the ABP Audience Award-winner Binge and Purge. Later that year, Safron partnered with The Sundance Channel to provide ten original episodes of Breakfast also based on an ABP short. In 2008 ABP began hitting the road and screened some of their Best of ABP films to limited theaters throughout the country including Los Angeles, Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Omaha and Washington DC. Safron also made sure his festival could help offer additional support to further promote animators with web selects through its website as well as special Party Mix-Tape DVDs to showcase some of the festivals best shorts. Animation Block Party 2013 is currently open for submissions. There is over $30,000 dollars worth of prizes up for grabs from sponsors like Toon Boom, DigiCel, Dragonframe, Crumpler Bags and Sakura.

Last year, ABP received over 500 short animation film entries and screened 93 of those films over the three-day 2012 summer festival. The festival has averaged over 2,500 attendees every summer and continue to reach new and old fans every year. Entries are coming in from all over the world, weve added an extra night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and have some amazing surprises in store for the tenth anniversary, said Safron, no matter what your relationship with animation is, youre not gonna want to miss ABP 2013, its gonna be the best ABP ever, hands down. Brooklyn, NY (June 17, 2013) - This year, ANIMATION BLOCK PARTY kicks off its annual animation short film festival with a special 10th anniversary celebration! Opening night of this years special 4-day festival will feature two of NY's hottest bands: internationally acclaimed duo, Adam Green and Binki Shapiro will headline, while the New York City-based rock band Hooray for Earth will open the show. The festival will also present exclusive shorts from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Pixar, including the highly acclaimed, Saschka Unseld directed short, The Blue Umbrella. Les Savy Fav frontman and comedian Tim Harrington will host the festivities held on opening night at The Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday, July 25th at 8:30pm. Headliners Adam Green and Binki Shapiros album debuted this January to international praise, which included viral hits Just to Make Me Feel Good and Here I Am. Green, a New York based musician and Shapiro, a Los Angeles singer and songwriter teamed up to blend their acoustic rock sound. The east meets west duo just finished a European tour and have been featured in The Guardian, National Public Radio, Pitchfork, and Interview Magazine. Opening act and Dovecote recording artist Hooray for Earth continues to be a pop rock sensation. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Hooray for Earth has released two EPs and their debut full length True Loves on Dovecoat Records. They are currently working on the follow up to True Loves. The evenings host and comedian, Tim Harrington is the lead vocalist of New York City indie rock band Les Savy Fav. Harrington has been featured in the web series Beardo on Pitchfork TV and written and starred in videos featured on Funny or Die.
