How Learning is Spelled F U N

At Paradise English, we work hard and play harder.
Tutor Jing Olid-Melendez recounts two of several recent activities. One activity that I had the privilege to organize and participate in was a sunset sailing trip provided by one of the islands pioneer and well-loved establishments the Red Pirates Pub. An unpretentious yet popular hang-out just off Angol Beach, the native-inspired beach bar is known for its Friday night BBQ buffets and sailing tour activities. Moreover, Red Pirates is an ideal place to chill out with drink in hand, while watching the magnificent Boracay sunset. One recent cloudy Saturday afternoon, the P.E. gang had a blast sailing, swimming, and snorkelling. Our aqua sports activities were followed by happy hour drinks and a sumptuous dinner at another nearby barrestaurant called Treehouse. Suffice it to say time passes quickly when one is having fun. Ours certainly classified as extreme fun since it was almost midnight when we parted ways.

Paradise English students and teachers teamed up and displayed the hearts of champions during the 2013 P.E Beach Games held at Angol Beach. Sponsored by Claus Bauer, school president, the competition successfully imparted the values of individual discipline and team collaboration in the spirit of sportsmanship and fun. The whole day event showcased both students and teachers competitive skills and creative talent in several games. Team Hangover bested all teams. Team Coconuts won 2nd place. Team Tipsies and Johns Island Iced Tea finished 3rd and 4th places respectively. As it is at Paradise English, we all went home as winners of various delightful prizes. The much-anticipated Hotdog Party capped the days event and everyone celebrated with food, fun and fellowship.

First Love Rekindled at Paradise English

Tutor Ted Duran interviews PE Staff Warren Cayanan
Weve all paused to admire the schools manicured lawn, its verdant grass and pretty flowers, but have we taken the time to consider the hands that care for them? When I started working as a tutor here, I immediately noticed the man quietly trimming grass and maintaining the school grounds. I soon came to know Warren Cayanan as Tito Boy. This 53-year old father of 2 hails from San Roque, Tarlac in Luzon. Tito Boy was a tricycle driver before fate took him to Boracay. His passion for flowers and plants led him to a new endeavor in Paradise English as groundskeeper and all around handyman. Gardening is my first love, he admits. Flowers abloom uplift his soul and inspire him at work. I guess tending to nature staves off the loneliness of being apart from his family who resides in Metro Manila. The demands of his job at his age are challenging at times but he is grateful to be employed, more so that he is employed by the Bauers. They are kind and treat me as part of their family. Sinisipa na nga ako ng kahirapan eh (The harsh life kicks me hard), he says in jest but goes on persevering for his familys sake. The next time you pause to admire natures beauty all around the Paradise English campus, be on the look out for the bashful Tito Boy. Acknowledge his efforts in beautifying the school grounds and make his day. Hell make yours with his

grateful albeit shy smile. J

STUDENTS PERSPECTIVE
Paradise English has a beautiful campus and is conveniently located near the beach. The teachers are attentive and quickly point out my strengths and weaknesses, helping me improve my skills faster. I appreciate the flexibility the administrators extend in scheduling classes. The activities are fun and they also create the opportunity to interact with students of different nationalities. They encourage me to practice speaking English more frequently. The Filipinos are kind and approachable. I am sure to bring wonderful memories back with me. - Sammy, Korea -
