• Scrap yarn (I’ve used DK, worsted, Sport, Sock yarn… any yarn can work as long as it’s
not too bulky)
• Size 6 (US) DPNs / 4 DPNs (EU)
• Tapestry needle
• Keyring
• Safety eyes, either 6mm or 9mm
GAUGE:
Gauge isn’t really important here. Obviously, as it’s a keyring, the yarn needs to knit up small,
but you can go down a needle size to make the finished product smaller depending on the
yarn you use.
GLOSSARY:
• CO – Cast On
• DPN – Double Pointed Needle
• K – Knit
• Sl1, K1, PSSO – slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over
• [] x y – repeat the part of the pattern between brackets y number of times
• BO – Bind Off
ASSEMBLING & SHAPING:
Pull the BO tail through the top to
the inside of the head and turn the
head inside out. Arrange your icords
in a cross then pull the BO tail
through the center of all 4 icords.
Secure the legs close to the top of
the head (on the inside) by pulling
the yarn several times through the
center of all 4 icords and knotting
tightly. Pull the remaining tail
through the top of the head then
turn the head right side out again.
The icords stuff the head and give it
its shape as well as making up the
arms of your octopus.
Secure your safety eyes to the head
(either put them exactly on opposite
sides of the head or if you want
them to be slightly closer to each
other, make sure you secure them
at the same distance from the
casting on tail on each side).
Using the casting on tail, weave it
discretely around the base of the
head and pull to shape the head
further and make the wider edge
stand out more. Tie up tightly and
weave in ends.
Using the tail left at the top of the
head, attach your keyring securely
then weave in ends.
Voilà! You have one cute little
octopus keyring! Make as many as
you want, give them to your friends
and family… flood the world with
tentacles! ☺
