PRE-CERTIFICATION EMPLOYMENT, ON-THE-JOB TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

The provisions regarding training contained within this document are intended to reflect those published in PCN General Requirements and, in the event of conflict between the two documents, only PCN General Requirements will apply. General On-the-job training in the applicable NDT method and field of application can be carried out to supplement classroom and practical training provided by a PCN approved organisation. Personnel gaining experience to meet the PCN requirement for certification must do so under the supervision of appropriately certificated personnel. Such training and experience must be documented and authenticated. Training: levels 1 and 2 To be eligible for Level 1 or Level 2 examination, candidates must have successfully completed, prior to making application for examination, a British Institute of NDT validated course of training, at an Accredited Training Establishment, which covers the relevant PCN syllabus. Accredited training establishments will provide trainees and their employers with documentary proof of successful (or unsuccessful) completion of training. The minimum duration of any training and experience in order to satisfy the PCN certification requirements is shown in the table below.

Training NDT Method ET MT, PT & VT RT & UT Level 1 hours 40 16 40 Level 2 hours 40 24 80 Level 1 months 3 1 3

Experience Level 1 hours 480 160 480 Level 2 months 9 3 9 Level 2 hours 1440 480 1440

NOTES: a) b) c) The training hours include both practical and theoretical training. Direct access to level 2 requires the total of training and experience shown for level 1 and 2. Work experience in months is based on a nominal 160 hours/month. When a candidate for certification is working in excess of 160 hours per month, he or she may be credited with experience based on the total hours, but shall be required to produce evidence of this experience. For candidates who have successfully completed a PCN approved course of training, formal structured on-the-job training to the PCN syllabus may account for up to one third of the above training requirement. Candidates will be required to provide documented proof, authenticated by an employer or responsible agency (who PCN may contact for verification purposes), of the above on-the-job training before an application for examination can be accepted by a PCN test centre. The columns overleaf are intended to assist the candidate in logging on-the-job training and experience.

The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing is an accredited certification body offering personnel and quality management systems assessment and certification against criteria set out in international and European standards through the PCN Certification Scheme.
