Linear Equations Flag Project

You will be using your abilities to work with linear equations to design your own flag. An exceptional project will include the following elements. Plan (Due Day 2, Week of February 25) A plan neatly executed on graph paper (provided to you - use a straightedge!). The plan should include: Graphs of linear equations to create the color boundaries. The project must include some diagonal lines. Your flag must have a minimum of five lines. Equations labeled on each line. Write your equations for each line into the equation table, and use the letters from the equation table to mark your lines. You do not need to use all of the spaces on the equation table! Color labels in each region. You may use segments instead of complete lines. However, you should still label the segments' corresponding linear equations. Use inequalities to indicate the boundaries for the domain of the parts of your design that are segments rather than lines (ex. - {x: -8<x<6}). Show your work! You should attach a page of work that shows how you found the yintercepts for any lines that cross the y-axis off of the page. The Flag (Due Day 4, Week of March 4) The design precisely matches your final plan. Straight lines (drawn with a ruler); no curved lines. Color (markers, paints or heavily marked colored pencil OK; no pastels or other media that will stain the walls). Description (Due Day 4, Week of March 4) A typed paragraph or two describing the mathematical concepts related to slope and y-intercept. At a minimum, your description should explain: What happens (and what doesnt happen) to the appearance of a line when you change the slope value of its corresponding equation. Be sure to consider the range of possible cases. What happens (and what doesnt happen) to the appearance of a graph when you change the b-value of its corresponding linear equation. Bonus (above and beyond) A description of any symbolism you wish to attach to your design (ex. Black often represents determination and/or ethnic heritage. White often represents peace, purity, mountain snow, and/or innocence.). http://www.enchantedlearning.com/geography/flags/colors.shtml **********************************************************************

Category Linear equations are written in slope-intercept form. Your plan includes at least four lines, some of which are diagonals. Equations are recorded in Equation Table and the corresponding letters are labeled on graph paper plan. The equations match the graphs (slopes and y-intercepts are correct) Work is neat and easy to follow. You have shown calculations for finding the y-intercept. Total
