UUFW News
Meals on Wheels update: The first half of 2013
To date, we have served 1621 meals in 2013. We pack and deliver about 31 meals in four routes each Wednesday and Friday over the North Waco area. Meals on Wheels is struggling with financial cutbacks. Most of their funding comes from Federal & State grants. These grants have become smaller and more scarce or disappeared altogether. If you have the opportunity to help them, please do so. To meet their financial goals, the group has scaled back the number of meals that they provide to the needy in Waco. The 1621 meals we've served thus far is 440 fewer meals than the same period in 2012, and the number of clients served in 2012 was less than 2011. Many thanks to the drivers and subs that help get those meals out to serve our neighbors.

A Warm Welcome
What a wonderful opportunity! What a wonderful denomination! This summer we are offering a new series of Sunday Morning Sessions coordinated by Ron Hagar. Utilizing the curriculum The Welcoming Congregation to study a variety of insights and opportunities for personal growth and discovery, we will review the components of oppression and how they have been used to marginalize the gay, lesbian, transgendered and bisexual community. The Welcoming Congregation was originally developed in 1990 and revised in 1999. It has helped 66% of US Unitarian Universalist Congregations and 94% of Canadian UU Congregations enhance their welcoming and affirming place of worship for people with marginalized sexual orientations or gender identities. Starting July 21st, come join us on Sunday Mornings, 9:45, for this timely and soul-searching use of our free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

For more information about UU Welcoming Congregations visit the UUAs Welcoming Congregation Bulletin at http://www.uua.org/documents/lgbtq/130701_wcbulletin.pdf . The bulletin is produced monthly by the LGBTQ Ministries office of the UUA.

Lost and Found Alert! A member of UUFW misplaced two ladies rings and a bracelet about three months ago, around March 2013. Its possible they were left on the window ledge above the sink in the kitchen. If you happen to know anything about these items please contact Melissa Garn at melissa.garn@uuwaco.org

News in Childrens Religious Education

During-Service Childcare to be Suspended: It has become necessary to discontinue offering this option for families during the sermon/homily part of the Sunday service. The limited volunteer availability and the riskiness of supervising unstructured play time for so many children has convinced the RE Team that we need to defer this options for the time being. It is our goal to reorganize a more structured service for the children at some point in the future when volunteer resources are in place to make such a program successful. Above all we want all of our children to remain safe.
