Rating System for F700 VFDs Introduction
The introduction of the F700 saw two big changes in the Mitsubishi VFD rating system. Change from kW / HP rating to ratings in Amperes Change in current overload ratings
Ampere Rating
Previous generations of drives have used a nominal Horsepower / kW rating based on the expected full load currents of standard 4 pole induction motors, according to NEC code data. The F700 part number is based on output current and makes no reference to kW or HP Example for a 240V drive, rated at 25 HP / 18.5 kW :-
F500 (Previous generation) part number : FR-F520-18.5K-NA F700 Equivalent part number : FR-F720-00770-NA
00770 gives the output current of the drive to 1 decimal place (in this case, 77.0 Amps). The F700 brochure and pocket selection guides contain the necessary information, either to size the drive for a given motor based on rated current, or to make a direct conversion from F500 to F700 part numbers.
FR-F7*0-*****-NA Examples
FR-F720-00077-NA 240 Volt Type, Output Current 7.7A FR-F740-00930-NA - 480 Volt Type, Output Current 93.0A

Overload Current Ratings
Until the introduction of the F700 VFD, Mitsubishi inverters current overload ratings were based on one of two systems : For drives intended mainly for Constant Torque applications, (e.g. S500, E500, A500..) 150% current overload for 60 seconds, 200% for 0.5 seconds
For drives intended mainly for light loads, or Variable Torque pump and fan applications (e.g. A100E, F500..) 120% current overload for 60 seconds, 150% for 0.5 seconds.
Also, the overload levels of the drive have always been determined based on the assumption that the drive will have to operate at ambient temperatures up to 50 C.
The LD rating of the drive assumes an operating temperature of 50 C as before, but the SLD rating assumes the ambient temperature will be no higher than 40 C.
Notes
The F700 drive part number is based on SLD rated current. This rating is recommended for most pump and fan duty applications. Both LD and SLD ratings assume the switching frequency is no more than 2 kHz. If a higher switching frequency is used , the drive will change the setting if the load increases.
The drive is pre-set for SLD operation. To change it to LD operation, Set Pr 570 to 1.
