Brochure
Description: Date:
A two sided information brochure about a friend and her Photography business using a logo created this semester. 7/13/2013

Course/Instruction:
Comm 130 Section 2 Eric Lybbert

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe InDesign/Adobe Photoshop Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images.

Process:

I first set up a fold in the Adobe InDesign at 5.5 inches so it would be even on either side. For the front and back of the brochure, I found and downloaded a photo from the internet and resized it in Adobe Photoshop to fit the page. I then took the logo I created in Adobe Illustrator and placed it on to the back of the brochure, and wrote a number and email underneath it. I then wrote Photography Redefined on the front in two contrasting fonts. For the inside of the brochure, I made the background a dark green-blue color from the picture on the front and placed three photos my friend sent me on it. On the left side, it was a picture of her from her senior pictures shoot, and on the other side pictures of band members from a show she was hired to photograph. For her self portrait, I took the photo in Photoshop and used the Quick Selection Tool to delete the background. I then inversed the selection and clicked, refined edge to make the image look sharper and give it a little bit of effect. I then placed it in InDesign where I used the text wrap option to wrap my text around the alpha channel of the image. For the other two photos, I resized them to fit into the brochure and gave it a yellow stroke, the same yellow as the text in the brochure and text-wrapped both the images to give the brochure an even cleaner look.

Description: Date:

Course/Instruction:
Comm 130 Section 2 Eric Lybbert

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography.

Process:

1. I cropped the background image of the temple to 8.5 by 11. 2. Using a Warming filter with an orange color selected, I saturated the temple background to make it look like a sunset. 3. I then took the doorknob image and change the size to 525 width that way it would fit the way I wanted it to in the design. 4. I selected the doorknob and moved him to the background image, then I added a mask. 5. With a large black paint soft-edged brush, set at 30% opacity and 30% flow, I blended the image into the background to make it look like part of the scene. 6. With the text tool, I added a scripture verse at the top of the screen, but made the Knock look bigger for contrast.

This is a black and white promotional flier for a fictional leadership conference for upcoming college graduates. Its sponsored by VOUANT Communications and gives graduates an opportunity to see what it really takes to be in the competitive business world.

Course/Instruction:
Comm 130 Section 2 Eric Lybbert

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe InDesign/Adobe Photoshop Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

At first I had no idea how I was going to go about this. I did a few sketches however none of them seemed to fit. I then took a few ideas from each and went with it. I emphasized graduate leadership conference and Do you want to have the competitive edge in business by repeating the same design on each. I also made the frame on the photo thicker to bring contrast to the piece. I wanted to make it sleek and modern, something that I felt would grab a persons eye. I feel I most definitely accomplished that goal.

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe InDesign/Adobe Ilustrator Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process:

I used the rectangle tool to create the front and back outline of my business card. I then copied/pasted the logo and contact information onto this page and gave the card a coral color background and made the font and lines white. I kept the logo and contact information about the same size as the information on the letterhead. I made sure that no important information came any closer than 1/8 inches from the edges of the business card layout.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process:

I positioned the name of the photographer in the top left corner of my letterhead. I made sure to keep it at least .5 inches away from the edges. I then typed my contact information into a text box and positioned it on the right hand side of the letterhead and it the same font as the logo. I made her name 14pt and 12pt font to contrast with the 7pt contact information. I added in the lines from the logo to unify the information and to get some repetition. I made the lines the coral color of the business card to show repetition and give the letterhead some color

A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo for my friends photography business. 6/29/2013

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe Photoshop and Text Wrangler Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a website page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS documenting. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Process:

I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I had never seen or written any HTML/CSS so this was a very difficult task for me. It was interesting to see how you could make a web page by only using a simple text editor. After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then chose colors based on the codes found by the eyedropper tool in Adobe Photoshop that contrasted with the pink color of the logo. I also changed the fonts to Arial, Noteworthy, and Tahoma. I also learned about padding which I put around the logo and the text so they wouldnt be so close to the edge and look neater. The hardest part about this project was the CSS because it was a completely difference world I never knew before.

Course/Instruction:
Comm 130 Section 2

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:
Process:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.

Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

This project was really fun for me to do especially since it hit so close to home. Some friends of mine are in a band that are becoming really big in the Midwest, and since they didnt have a logo I designed some for them, which they are thrilled about! For the first two variations, I used the pen tool to create the font in the first one, and the headphones in the second one. I also used the line tool to make the arrow for the final variation. I didnt use color to contrast very much, so I explored different fonts and sizes to make the logo really stand out. Illustrator is definitely a tool that will become useful, and though Im still trying to master it, it was a fun to create and help a friend out.

Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

I started out by using a scanner for my photo and uploaded it to a word document. Yes, I did ALL of this using word. It took me a while to figure out a design idea to use the photo for. Then I finally got a design in my head and went to work. I made the background a dark pink color to contrast with some of the flowers in the bouquet, and I just kept it really simple.
