CALL Centre Session 5 Compose and dictate
Review
Last session you practised dictation and correction with 'Read That' to help read
back the dictated text. This session you will do some more dictation, add new
words to the dictionary, and learn new voice commands.
Get started
Put on the microphone, start NaturallySpeaking and open the blank page.
SELECT-ALL
DELETE
This will delete the text in the blank document. Then dictate:
SET-FONT-BOLD, SET-SIZE-18
Speech recognition training session 5 [NEW PARAGRAPH]

CALL Centre Session 5 Compose and dictate
SET-FONT-PLAIN, SET-SIZE-12
Name [COLON] student's name [NEW PARAGRAPH]
As well as dictating I can also tell the computer what to do [EXCLAMATION
MARK]”
GO-TO-SLEEP
Hint!
Speak the command words together without a pause – say “Set-font-bold” – if
you pause between each word, the program may type them on screen, instead
of carrying out the command. If NaturallySpeaking types your command
instead of performing it, say "Scratch-that" and the text will be deleted.
Repeat the command. If it is typed again, hold down the Ctrl key and repeat
the command - this will force NaturallySpeaking to accept the speech as a
command rather than as dictation.
Warn the student to avoid using Scratch-that all the time. If only a few
errors are made in the sentence it is much better to correct them with the
Correction Window, than delete the whole thing with "scratch-that". Use
Scratch That where more or less the whole phrase or sentence is messed up.
Click on Help > View Command list, and then Formatting Text to see how other
formatting can be done with voice.

around the dictionary of active words used by NaturallySpeaking. Click Show
Custom words only to see a list of the words you have just added. If you don’t
want to use these words again, select them and then click Delete. See p. 34 in the
NaturallySpeaking User's Guide for more ways to add new words to the dictionary.
Recap
Dictate a few sentences about the things that have been covered in this session:
text formatting, composing and dictating text, using voice to move around the
document, and adding new words to the dictionary. Save the file.
