1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The 4003 series process indicator has been developed for the purpose of measurement and control of parameters of technological processes. A typical application of the instrument is measuring and control of temperature, pressure, level, flow and others in power plants, boilers, cement plants, chemical and biochemical industry, greenhouses, etc. There are models with current, voltage, RTD, pulse, frequency, potentiometer and other input types, as well as timers. The measured actual process value is indicated on a 4-digit 20mm high LED display in real physical units. Via the functional keypad there is an option for setting the zero and the end of the displayed range, as well as the place of the decimal point. By a RTD input the measuring temperature range is set in advance in order to adjust the ADC more accurate, but the displayed range can be limited more. In standard operating mode the display indicates the measured actual process value. If the measured value is lower than the set low display range limit, a notification Und appears. If its higher than the set high display range limit, a notification OFL appears. In the case of fault in the input line (sensor fault, short circuit or disconnected wires) a notification Err appears on the display. If the output relay is used just as an ON/OFF controller, it gets deactivated by an error. If it is used as an alarm level, its error state can be set while configuring the relay output. In case of an additive error of the measurement device, there is an option for correcting it by adding a chosen signed value to the indicated process value. Optionally there can be integrated up to two freely programmable SPDT 5A/250V relay outputs L1 and L2 - every output could be activated or deactivated as a low or high alarm level with normally open or closed relay logic, or be used just for ON/OFF process control. Limit values, hystereses and response time delay (up to 250 sec) are also programmable. When the actual value reaches the set limit of L1 or L2 the respective output relay is activated, which is indicated by a lighted LED L1 or L2. Those features enable the use of the device as a thermometer, ON/OFF controller or dual alarm controller. A special function implements the calibration of the measuring channel and the analogue output. Controllers are encased in a rugged plastic DIN - 1/8 size housing. The rear panel has screw-type terminal connections for a power line, one input and optional outputs. Instead of output relays there is an option of up to two 12V/30mA open collector outputs. There is an option of a 2-wire galvanic isolated 4 20mA DC current output as a proportional of the process value output or as a control output. It can be active using an integrated galvanic isolated 24 VDC power supply, or passive. In case of a notification Err the output current becomes lower than 3.5 mA.

On request the integrated galvanic isolated 24 VDC power supply can be used to power an external transmitter. The combination of an active current output and connected external transmitter to the same power supply harm their galvanic isolation! Optionally there can be integrated a RS485 serial interface. The communication is accomplished according to the protocol Modbus ASCII or Modbus RTU. Attention! The device has not enough capacity to include and combine all possible options for inputs and outputs. For example the combination of two output relays and a serial communication interface RS485 is not supported. Therefore we advise you to specify correctly the required options when ordering, so we could offer you the corresponding 4003 configuration or another more complex device.

GENERAL INFORMATION Each output relay can be configured as a: - N/OFF controller - Alarm level ( HL, LL) Configuration as alarm level relays Setting of the following 3 parameters is required for the proper work of an alarm level relay: 1. The alarm level value of the measured quantity, which triggers the relay (SPx) 2. Hysteresis of the alarm level (HStx). 3. The type of alarm level high or low (Lx). The logic of triggering an alarm level relay is represented in the diagrams, listed below:

PV

HIGH ALARM LEVEL

activation point SPAL - set alarm value HiSt - hysteresis time

deactivation point

When the relay is configured as a high alarm level (HL): - it gets triggered by PVx > SPx - it gets deactivated by PVx SPx HStx PVx the measured process value on channel x.

LOW ALARM LEVEL

SPAL - set alarm value activation point

When the relay is configured as a low alarm level (LL): - it gets triggered by PVx < SPx - it gets deactivated by PVx SPx + HStx

Configuration as n/Off controller The proper work of a relay, configured as On/Off controller, requires setting the same parameters as the ones for the alarm level relay logic, but the triggering logic is different. 1. Value of the measured quantity, which should trigger the relay (SPx) 2. Hysteresis of the trigger value (HStx). The logic of triggering an On/Off controller relay is represented in the diagram, listed below:

PV
deactivation point SPx - set trigger value HStx - hysteresis

The given configuration of a relay is typical for On/Off control of the temperature of a heater. When the temperature exceeds the set trigger value the relay gets deactivated and when the temperature gets below it minus the set hysteresis (SPx - HStx) the relay gets reactivated.
