Guest Preacher Bio

was born July 19, 1959 to Rev. Earl B. and Norrene T. Williams at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. Early in life, God ordained Dr. Williams footsteps. Earning numerous honors, he graduated summe cum laude from Florida A&M University and received a Masters of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in Ministry from the United Theological Seminary. In 1986, Dr. Williams was installed as Senior Pastor of Bates Memorial Baptist Church located in Smoketown, one of the poorest zip codes in Jefferson County, Louisville, Kentucky. The congregation has grown exponentially, seeing its membership increase from a hundred members to over five thousand members. In addition, the ministries of the church currently provide 58 diverse areas for people to serve and also provide, through the Bates Community Development Corporation, a number of creative ministry opportunities. In 2004, Bates Memorial unveiled its newly constructed multi-million dollar worship facility, in an effort to reach more souls for Christ, through teaching biblical principles and applying them to practical life issues. Often dubbed, the preachers preacher, Dr. Williams is frequently asked to serve as an instructor and guest speaker for various community wide events, lectures, seminars, workshops, and revivals throughout the country. Dr. Williams is committed to changing the lives of the marginalized, people that society has forgotten. The homeless, the drug addicts, the single mothers, the hurting and the suffering all have a purpose and a place in the Kingdom. Through his message of transformation and restoration, Dr. Williams encourages people to believe God, to believe in themselves, and to believe that there is something greater for their lives. He desires that all people seek after and discover their God-ordained purpose by introducing them to the power of the Savior. Dr. Williams strives to lead people to their divine destiny with God, showing them through Worship, Christian Education, and Discipleship, that God has a plan for all His children. Pastor Williams desire to reach others extends beyond the pulpit in his position as the President of the Educational Ministry of the Central District Baptist Association; a Trustee at Simmons College of Kentucky, a historical college for African American students, and the Chairman for the 2008 Urban Upgrade Conference, which addresses how to effectively minister within urban areas. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Bates Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization of the church that works within the community to provide educational enrichment, cultural exposure, and community building opportunities for residents. Dr. Williams is married to the former Leona Michelle Smith of Greensboro, Florida, and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Imani and Nailah Cymone.

To Do Justice
Breaking Barriers to the Ballot
. . . the right to vote is too precious, too fundamental to be so burdened or conditioned. - From Harper, et al. v. Virginia Board of Elections, et al., decision of Mar. 14, 1966 (Evelyn Thomas Butts and her suit to end Virginias Poll Tax) . . . a law which burdens a citizen from access to the franchise is a wall that must come down. -Judge Wisdom in United States v. Louisiana

The Casted Votes Felt Around The World. . .

Do you remember that Tuesday night in November 2008, when the majority of the people in our country voted for Barack Hussein Obama, the first person of color elected as President of the United States of America? The world felt smaller, more connected, and united. The record voter turnouts revealed that many Americans, who had not previously voted, exercised their right to vote. Many people and countries around the world celebrated with us. Our accomplishment of electing an African American as the President of the United States was empowering and demonstrative of a well-functioning representative democracy; when citizens vote, they are able to affect great change! The power of our individual votes had been collectively felt around the world.

Our Countrys Founding Principle: A Representative Democracy

Our countrys recent celebration of 237 years of independence is a noteworthy reminder of how much of our countrys origin and evolution is grounded upon our fundamental civil right to vote for our elected representatives. Each eligible citizen participates equally by casting one vote. In the early American political system, the right to vote was reserved for white males over the age of 21 who owned land. In 1920, after the passage of the 19th Amendment, it was extended to women nationwide. In 1868, the right to vote was technically extended to African Americans with the passage of the 14th Amendment (and subsequent constitutional amendments) that was effectively enforced only with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. And, in 1971, Congress lowered the legal voting age to 18. Of course, in all but two states, this can be totally irrelevant if you are an ex-felon, even if you have completed your sentence.

Your Ability to Exercise Your Fundamental Right to Vote Is Under Attack. . .

The Supreme Courts decision to strike down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 has opened the door for states to enact restrictive voter laws that effectively discourage or prevent participation, which disproportionately impacts people of color and the poor. These potential

Following the passage of Indianas photo ID law, a dozen elderly nuns were turned away from the polls because they did not possess the required photo ID. I understand that several of them held expired photo IDs that were not sufficient under Indianas restrictive law. . . Beyond formal voting restrictions, in recent elections we have witnessed overt threats by armed vigilantes attempting to intimidate Hispanic voters at the polls in Arizona. We witnessed cross burnings intended to intimidate African American voters on the eve of an election in Louisiana. We also saw organized efforts in Maryland to deceive minority and low-income voters with false information about polling locations and phony endorsements.

Youth Revival Prayer

As members of the Youth Revival Council, we have written prayers to prepare us for our Hip Hope Youth Revival. We ask that each Sunday during prayer time, and during your Wednesday prayer and fasting, that you keep us and every child, young person, teen, and young adult in prayer.

Dear Lord, Thank You for waking us up this morning. Thank You for letting us breathe the wonderful fresh air You made for us. God, we want to pray over Your children because some dont have a mother or father in their lives. So please bless them with the village around them. Father, we pray that our brothers and sisters stay in school because education is the key to a good and healthy life. So God, give us wisdom to keep going and achieve our destiny. We ask that You answer our prayers and we will give You all the praise. In Jesus' Name, I pray, Amen. Bryce Thompson

YOUTH REVIVAL PRAYER

Youth Revival Prayer

Our Holy Father up above, We have come to You again to say thank You, thank You for the things You provided us. Thank You for allowing so many to have the close relationship with Christ even after the things we have done. L ord we know You are a forgiving God, we have all sinned and we ask that You forgive us. Search us, O God; if You find any negative energy inside of us, we want You to take it all out and refresh our spirits. As a Father who loves His children no matter what the situation, we know we can still come to You, O L ord. L ord, help us to remember, L ord, You come first in any and everything, You our Father and You are always watching. L ord, we have come to You today asking that You please watch over all children that are out on the streets, the children who lead violent lifestyles or are affected by violence; for the children who are in camp, and the children who just arent doing anything with their lives. L ord put a hedge of protection over everyone in this world, L ord. We know, O L ord, that You, and You, alone, are our Provider, Protector, Father, Rescuer, and Guider. You have placed our parents here to help with the guidance part. Heal us, O L ord, from this corrupt world, where many people have gotten to the top and forgotten that they started at the bottom. We ask that You will help them to remember that everyone isnt living large. Speak to us L ord, heal the lame, the sick, the weary, and the elderly, and we will carefully and magnificently give You praise. In the mighty awesome powerful Jesus we pray, and the people who love God may say, Amen. Cherinay Sledge 7th Grade, Kenwood Academy-Academic Center

Young black men are abounding with talents and potential. A quick survey of brilliant black men would show us that a disciplined work ethic and boundless dreaming allowed many of our ancestors to influence the history of our nation and world. However, our ability to dream can be limited by people or circumstances that have been discouraged and lost faith in gifts God has given them. RAISING LEADERS and DEVELOPING DISCIPLES

January Matthew 16:24 (NLT) Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." February Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor. March Luke 10:19 (NIV) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. April Romans 10:1-2 (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. May 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. June Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. July Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. August Jeremiah 1-7 (NLT) The Lord replied, Dont say, Im too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you." September Isaiah 1:3 (NLT) Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its masters carebut Israel doesnt know its master. My people dont recognize my care for them. October Isaiah 40:29 (KJV) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. November John 17:21 (KJV) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. December Matthew 1:23 (KJV) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
